Art & Inspiration They say the mind is the first to go . . . .

  1. But I can't remember which is second.
Like the time I was painting a couple body panels and thinking I really need to change my 3M half facemask activated charcoal filters, smelled the paint really strong. When finished painting I took off the mask and saw the activated charcoal filters were safely still in the ZipLoc bag, protected from contamination. I had forgotten to put them on. Just hope I don't die of anything serious!!!

  3. Vintage body parts fail pretty quickly and are certainly hard to repair or restore.

Yup did the same thing as @willys36 . Was keen to get a messy sand blasting job done, in my haste I left the filters from my full face mask carefully packed away in the sealed container. Also found I could not wear eye glasses with a full face helmet , so knocked the lenses out of $2 pair and taped them to the inside of the mask. Worked well.

Sometimes what is lacking is focus. Years ago, while doing some home improvement, I was removing a double sink vanity and my hands were on autopilot. My mind was really focused on some other problem that day. So when I removed the drain trap and then emptied into that same sink , I had to laugh at myself as I cleaned up the mess. But minutes later, when I did exactly the same thing with the second sink, I was pissed.....

  7. So? What's your point? I do that every time I clean a trap.

Teeth go first, then eyes and knees.

I never stopped riding bike since I was a kid so my knees are all good. it's the brain that's gone. I forget where I put something, look and look and look, then finally see it where I looked 3 times already sitting right out in the open. now I look for things with a flashlight, even in the daytime with all the lights on. seems to help me focus.

On that note. Ever pull eye glasses down from the top of your head to hear something better?

Nowadays when I drop something I do the math in my head to see if it’s just easier to go out and buy new or pick it up.

  16. No, but I have had one pair up on my head, one pair hanging around my neck and then I start looking for a pair to wear. I only use them for seeing close up, otherwise I would silicon them onto my ears so I don't lose them.

With me the mind is willing but the body isn’t LOL.
Too many wrecks racing BMX bikes and then playing on my mountain bikes. On my 53rd birthday I was tearing up the neighborhood with some buddies and was hit by a truck and after going over the hood still attached to my 29er I broke my wrist and shoulder and put 30 stitches in my elbow. I rode the bike back home before going to the hospital so that should tell you I don’t have a lick of sense God gave a turnip.

  18. Still have all my teeth, even wisdom teeth, at 75. Had LASIK and many years later cataract surgery with the fancy multifocal lenses so don't even use readers! But I do wander around my shop looking for a 1/2" wrench for half an hour or so, only to discover I have been carrying it around in my hand the whole time.

I find myself walking across the garage to get a tool and forgetting what tool I was looking for, walk back to the project and sometimes think, was I coming or going. When cutting wood I now write the number of inches down, I can forget by the time I get to the compound miter saw. It goes on and on, I still get things done but everything takes forever, making lists/notes constantly, then misplacing them, BUT I'm happy/grateful to still be here and doing projects as all my life that's what I've done, I was self employed, a bigtime DIY guy and better off than many. Miss Garman is my new girlfriend (wife's OK with it) for some years now, I have one in all my rides, I never leave home without my cell phone so all is good here in the Great Northwoods of Wisconsin, Paradise Found. My morning coffee and The HAMB, I'm a very Lucky man.

  22. It's funny this thread came up just today... Yesterday I was doing a brake job on my "new" 2011 showroom condition CTS. It was hot and I was sweaty and I was sitting on my butt on the garage floor with a chair behind me so I could lift myself back up. Glasses slipping down my nose so I took them off and put them on the chair and told myself "Don't forget about the glasses". About 5 minutes later I lifted myself up and sat right on the titanium framed glasses I've had for around 20 years. Now they are in three separate pieces.... Titanium really does bend with 200 lb of pressure. Another substantial expense is coming......

You got away with it, but that's still not good. Best you hope never again. Some get sensitized immediately, feels like choking on something, and moving forward if you survive you likely will never be able to use the stuff again even with a charcoal filter. Not to be too harsh but I hope that generates a measure fear that means you'll never forget again. Me, I seal the whole mask with the filters in it. Sincerely glad you're ok.

  27. My "stupid pet trick" is to look high and low for 10 minutes for my glasses, give up and get the spare ones, then walk in the other room and have my wife ask, "Why are you wearing one pair of glasses and have another pair parked on your head?"

I resemble every one of the posts here at one time or another. My latest affliction is forgetting to zip up my pants after the going to the john, my wife helps me though. when we are at the store or a restaurant and I use the facility she always says did you zip?

With the technology available I'm thinking of putting a chip on my glasses that allows a search.
