Hot Rods Thickness of Original 40 Ford Frame

    What is the gauge of the steel used on a stock 40 Ford frame? There are patch pieces available in 11 gauge. Just wondering if the patch pieces are as strong as the original.

    I just found it. Closed cars had .100 thickness (10 gauge) and open cars had .110 (11 gauge). Wonder why the convertible had the "thinner" frame material?

  5. The larger the gauge number the Thinner the sheet material.
