Thickstun Head Covers?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by stan292, Oct 11, 2005.

  1. Thanks for the info guys. It's looking like I have an original set. They are a little corroded here and there from hanging on a leaky barn wall, but they should clean up nicely.

I've got an old original PM-7 - had traces of red paint before I media blasted it. Might send it to Warbozz for a tumble in his ********y....

I've been runnng a set on my 39 for over 11 years now and no overheating problem of any kind. Mine are the type that fit over the stock heads.

  8. Sorry about reviving a dead thread, but I've been wondering about the dates of Thickstun head cover manufacture. The quote above is all I could find on that topic. So apparently the covers were originally made in the 40's and the repops in the 70's, 80's, and 90's? Does anyone have any new info to add to this regarding the dates of manufacture? Thanks for any help.

Hi. around 1.5 - 2 years ago I bought a Thickstun Chevy 235 finned valve cover off of a seller named sereneone on ebay. It is finned on both sides & top & looks great. Just got around to installing it but do not have any photo's of it on engine yet. I will be taking some new photo's of my 46 Chevy coupe & engine sometime next week.
Sereneone stated he was having these re popped so he may be the one doing the Ford stuff also.
I know this Chevy valve cover is absolutely first rate quality stuff. It is not the valve cover showing in my avatar photo here. I paid $275 + shipping and was very happy to find it.
My cover has the 4 bolt mounting holes around the bottom lip and also is milled out on top between middle fins so it can be drilled for either 216/261 engines.
This Thickstun cover & the 2 cast aluminum polished air filter covers for those big 2 barrel carbs make that 235 Chevy six cylinder look like a monster.
I just did an ebay search and sereneone does not currently have any listings BUT ebay seller eastcheam842 has a bunch of thickstun items currently listed. You might contact him to see if he can or does cast the heads or head covers.
    Good luck, Jimmie

Hot Rod Mag did a flathead intake “shootout” about 3 years ago and the Edelbrock slingshot outperformed the Thickstun by 18 h.p. They started with a “mule motor” big bore, larger stroke, cam, big valves, etc.,; the slingshot was a****st the best for 2-2 and the Navarro 3-2 was a good 15-18 horsepower over the Edelbrock 3-2. The “mule motor” was only 3 h.p. Short Of reaching 200 h.p. Using the Navarro 3-2 intake. The motor was provided by H & H Flathead! Flatheads Forever!

Hey, I was curious to know if you still have the thickstun head covers and if you would be willing to part with them.

    regards,
    Reece
