Thieves Strike in Tenn.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fossil, Jun 16, 2008.

  1. They hauled it just far enough away to swap get-away trucks.

A white box behind an unknown tow vehicle will be near impossible to find.

    Smart on their part.

  3. don 't lots of city's have video cameras on their highways? I know Atlanta is monitored all the way through. Somebody may get some information from the highway cameras.

my friend lives near where they found the running tow rig..Im calling him. hes retired and has nothing better to do than help see if he can spot the trailer..or a switch to a differnt traler being done..hes right off of 40..I hope they catch these bastards..they have probably switched to surface or country roads..so they will not be as visible

  6. These guys are either pros who followed it from BG or are just locals who were hunting a trailer & anything that might be inside.

Sounds like they were headed east.

The coupe will either go overseas, get parted out, or go to the bottom of a lake. That trailer would pretty easy to sell.

    Sad.

Those Trailers have Numbers stamped on them..unless they cut that part out and re-weld something back in (that would be obvious too)..who ever knows this owner needs to post the Vin number of the Trailer too..My Haulmark has a vin# and its alot smaller than that 26 footer.
Just in case somewhere down the line they try to off that trailer.

wow, that's nuts. whoever did it has some serious balls.

how could an APB not go out about this? hoe many diesel fords with enclosed racing trailers do you see on the freeway? i'm sure a quick scan of the county after the report would have come up with something.

too bad GTA isnt a top priority anymore. gotta get shot before they take it to get the cops to take notice.

I find it real difficult to practice Christian charity when I hear things like this. I end up having violent fantasies about catching them in a secluded area. I'm real sorry man. I'll keep my eyes peeled up here.

There was a photo the other day of some dumb butt who was trying to steal the copper power lines and this is what happened to him ... I hope the Willys thieves get the same thing.

  21. This is one of the most stupid statements I've ever read on the internet!!! Good cops want to catch criminals, that is the bottom line.

This was posted on another board...message from Paul (the owner). probably not wise to bother him at work unless you have info, but all his numbers are listed here.

Pam and I appreciate all that you are doing and ask that you keep the pressure turned on by continuing to get the word out to everyone you can think of in the hot rod community, via postings, blogs, message traffic, club discussions and any other means of communication. Someone is going to see or hear something and that may be the critical piece of information leading to the return of our trailer and the LOW ET Willys. If you discover something suspicious, hear of a sighting, please feel free to communicate directly with me here at the Pentagon during business hours, 703-697-7444, paul.balash@js.pentagon.mil or at home after normal business hours, 703-690-9706, pbthird@verizon.net. Be as relentless and vigilant as you can be, any and all tips are appreciated and will be immediately passed on to the authorities for investigation. Thank you for everything you are doing. PB

  23. What will the insurance cover in a situation like this? Will they get a check for the agreed upon value of that car and trailer?

maybe you didnt understand what i ment..?
how many cars have you had stolen?..how interested have the cops been in working the case hard enough to find it?..did they get any payment from you to do so?..it costs them money to go after this kind of thing..and from the looks of things they arent too successful at it..find the records of the ammount of stolen cars, and how many of them are recovered..and how much revinew it generated..than come back here and post something on it..

at any rate..this sucks..I would go out of my mind if that was my equipment and car taken like that..think i would be sleeping in my trailer from than on if i ever built or recovered from that. and now i understand why "troublemaker427" took this so personal..hey dont worry buddy it wasnt your fault..and your only doing your job..not a personal attack on you..and maybe if local goverments werent buisy lining their pockets and sent some money to the local sherrifs dept. maybe you guys could be more effective in this arena..lets face it all the equipment necessary to catch these guys cost money..you want to get paid for your time right?

I think he was fully insured...truck, trailer and car. The car was insured for the full agreed upon value...but you just can't go out and pick up a steel coupe. Still good to get your money back though, so you can move on and replace it with something.

  26. It makes me sick to think of all the work and time that went into that car. It was BITCHIN. The wheels - the motor all of it. It just sucks major that someone could go an take it like that. I couldn't imagine having to start over.

This is my first post on this board, I normally just read to check up on what's going on, but the individual that posted about the Police not being interested in finding stolen vehicles kinda irked me. I've never had a vehicle stolen, but I've been the Officer that took the report many times. Let's take a quick look at what we're given to work with. Most of the time, we're not called until 2-3 hours after the theft occurred. How far could you take a stolen vehicle in 2-3 hours? Then we have to take the time to make sure that it was stolen and not repossessed. (Happens more often than you might think) We put the word out to our officers, and surrounding areas, as we're taking the report. It goes into the computer Nationwide within an hour. How far could you dismantle a vehicle in that amount of time, using torches and sawzalls? Yes it costs money, my salary. If you drive through Ohio and see a Trooper, check out his license plate. For every Lightning Bolt you see, that is a Stolen Vehicle recovered, with an arrest. If there is an Ace, it is for 5 recoverys and arrests. The thought that revenue is the only basis for investigations shows how little real world experience the author has with Law Enforcement.

  28. I'm not going to get into a pissin match with you about this. Just one question, what qualifies you to make such idiotic statements about goverment and law enforcement?

It sucks this persons property was taken by the scum of the earth. The same scum of the earth law enforcement works very hard everyday to put behind bars, court system willing. I also promise you if these turds are caught it will be by a cop putting his ass on the line doing it. And he aint doing it for the money. Law enforcement isn't a job you do to get rich, but you seem smart and probably already know that.

As i said this is not a personal attack..I have many friends and a few family members in Law enforcement..funny ..they feel the same as I do about this..but they are only given so much time and so many tools to do the job..and un foutunately the crooks are up on them in this arena..Its not the individual L.E.O. i have the problem with ..its the way the system works..or doesnt work.. you guys are out there doing what your supervisors are asking of you..and I do respect that..its a bummer your fighting a loosing battle..and yes it does take money to fight this..money your departments are not getting..because this crime has not generated the money to go after it econmically..the crooks arent paying after you cath them..all you are lucky enough is to recover the stolen property..than it costs more money to prosecute these people and jail them..

hey no intention of stepping on your toes guys..and maybe i mis spoke with out having paper proof..but lets not fool our selfs here..this crime is over the top..and the return from it..is very small..here are a few statistics i found for the year 2006..
every 26.4 seconds a car is stolen..only 12.6 percent of those are recovered by arrests..and im sure the numbers for classic cars are even lower..

P.S. thank you for your service..good luck..and be safe out there.
