just got done cuttin the leaf spring perches of my swap meet rearend, and knockin the brakedrums loose, when it occured to me,i probably should pull the pumkin cover off and take a peek at the gears.now, being somewhat rusty at this car thing{been buildin bikes the last 12 years}what should i lookout for?i know the basics like broken teeth and stuff, but any destinguishing marks or wear type patterns to watch for?i hate to mount the new brackets for the coilovers, and have this thing howl or sound goofy.it's a ten bolt out of an old nova, the dude said he took it out because he stepped up the motor and went to a 12 bolt.says theres nothin wrong with it though, but i want to be sure.any help would be appreciated...quickrod
Pull the cover off for sure. If the rear has been sitting a while it probably has rust on the part off the ring gear that is out of the fluid. A friend gave me one that had been sitting for about a year outside and it was so rusty inside that I just threw it away. Hopefully yours isnt, Dale
things to look for in a used rear end? Housing, pumpkin, axle shafts, CHUNKS etc etc......oh am I being to vague? Take the pan off and see if someone has GHETTO POSIed the spider gears with a vintage 1924 lincoln arc welder/fistfull of 6011's/canadian monkey. BTTT, I wanna know what to look for too
just pulled the cover right now, everything looks ok to me i guess.fuck it might a well put it in,can't dance..... oh yea,and jlo does have a nice schpankin ass...thanks,im out...quickrod
