I think I'm gonna get another project, when my tax return come in. It's a '60 Chevy panel, rebuilt 305 (we'll hafta change that), 350 trans, all new brake system, new tire and aluminum sawblade rims, new edelbrock carb, new exhaust from the manifolds back. Just needs to be finished (wire the brake light, blinker, dash, etc). Never wired anything before . The body is straight with no dents, all the wood in the back still good, only rust I seen was a 1" rust spot in the passenger fender, but wasn't all the way through yet. Drivers door window and vent window glass is crack. But he had glass for it in the back. Just still trying to figure out why they have roofing tar on the front floorboards with cardboard over it, because it didn't harden. Hope they were just trying to use it for sound proofing and not to cover rust. It'll be one hell of a messy job to get the shit off. Not no real biggy if it is rust, it's just flat metal. Anywhere I think it'll be a good buy. I'll post picture when I get it.
Hey Krylon its cool to see you here. The '60 sounds to be in pretty good shape. I guess it all boils down to the price and if you want to do the wiring. My only problem would be getting the tar off the floor boards. Had that stuff on the floor of my 52 ford pickup, took forever to get off.
I did roofing work for 10 years, so I know the secret to getting it off. "Mineral Spirits", a couple rolls of paper towels and some latex gloves.
Have you looked under the car? the wood and tar may be your floor board. I've seen it before, all that may be left of the floor may be just where it sits on the frame
Get that book "how to wire your street rod" from http://thenightprowlers.com/ for $8. It's got super easy basic wiring diagrams in it. Reads like a comic book too!!
Well the taxes come in so I on my way. Gonna crawl around under it before I give up any $$$, and it just had to rain yesterday.
I did it! I got to the shop while he was gone to lunch so I got to look it over real good before he got back. Still not sure what the idea was with the roofing, but the front floorboards had already been patch. It don't have any tags on it and doesn't have any brake lights. But I wasn't gonna fork out no cash till I drove it. SO, I took it for a spin around the neighborhood. Just as I pulled back into the lot a sheriff drove by. Thought that was a good sign. I talked him down some on the price and made the deal. Got the title and keys and had to get going to get the kids from school and get me ready for work. Even made the phone call on the way to great the kids and ordered a Painless wiring harness. Hope to get this on the road PDQ. I'm going back tommorow to get it and bring it home. I'll post pictures asap.
