My friend Brett cut down his long bed into a short bed. Told me he had to change out the frame for a shorty also.
Said it wasn't worth all the labor in the end as he also changed the hubs and axles from 6 lugs to 5 lugs.
Should have started with a short bed in the beginning.
2 years later he has what he wanted but he's now poorer but wiser.

hmm... I think they look too boxy with a shortbed...But i´m no racer...and no gasser truck fan...

have you seen the farm truck drag truck? long beds can be fast, super fast

 

Yeah I know they can my buddy has 66 also long bed with a 283 he built with a muncie 4 speed and it hauls ass I was just shooting at the situation I bought it for my 12 year old kid and he yells at me for using it as a truck he wants me to to home depot in my ford to haul home concrete or lumber

A truck is a truck. They can be cool, but they are a tool made to work, use it as such. He can want what ever he wants your the parent and you bought the truck. Gassers are a special beast, my vote is cut it to a short bed and drop that beast sensibly so that it can still be used as a truck but has some attitude. keep it on the slow side if giving it to a young driver. straight six moves it fine and keeps the boy out of the ditch and jail.
