Thanks for all the good feedback, It'll be awhile before it sees the sun, still gotta block it down, shoot more clear, block it down again, and buff it......erg....I need to figure out a way to scam more money so I can get the roof finished too. Clearcoat is entirely too expensive. Once I get it done I'll do a mini tech, but Lownslow is pretty much the reason i got into spraying flake 2 years ago, now I'm a flake fag.....I had to work at the parts store all day today so I'm still REAL fuckin' worn out. I'll post more pics when theres more to show.

ALright, starting to do the sanding to get ready for the finish coats of clear, on spots where it seems like the clear might be a little thin should I just hit it with a fine scotch brite so I don't hit the flake, am i correct in thinking this? Never came up before on the tops and dashes I've done before....

Most clears need more tooth than just scotchbrite. How deep did you bury the flake?

It looks really nice. Did you spray it?

So far I've done everything on the car myself since I got it, from the patch panels, engine swap, wiring, to this. Th eonly thing I don't plan to do myself is the buffing cos I HATE buffing....plus I gotta buddy who's better than anyone else around at rubbing em' out. Most of the flake is buried pretty damn good. Theres just some spots underneath the headlights, and on a couple of curves, nothing major. Looks like some flake overspray hit those spots and stood up on end so it didn't get buried too deep. Getting it halfway smooth with 600, 800, 1000, and 1500 before I put the final clear coats on it......it's hot as shit already and it's not even noon yet. I don't think I'll get it all sanded today, unless I come back tonight after I get off work....we shall see!

There's no need for all those additional sanding steps. Hit it with 600 if you have enough material and spray your next coat.

looks good man ..... but do like root says . 600 then clear then sand and buff .. if you go to fine on the sanding your next clear will not have nought tooth to bite to ...... now get back to work .........

is 600 as low as you can go? A local painter told me I could use 400, but that sounds a bit scary to me. He does damn good work though, and made the point that that's what you use to smooth the primer out for the paint so why shouldn't it work?
all this sanding sucks ass.....donnie you sucks ass too cos it's all your fault I'm havin got do all this work and spend all this $$!:D

i thought you were a bit unsure as to how much clear you had in spots ... but if you feel you have enough material go for it .... just be careful ..... you can use 400 on most of the car and 600 where you are unsure .if you want to be safe....

and i accept NO responsibilty ....haha. congrats man ....

I haven't seen that much sparkle since the baton-twirling group walked by in the local Halloween parade.
I like it. Plus people won't look at me strange when I wolf whistle at it. Damned uptight twirlette Moms.

    Good job.

That's what I was thinking donnie, i have a TON of 400 left over from the Fury I did for a guy. I was thinking I could se it on at least the hood and trunk since they have the most clear on them. I laid down clear until my vision was blurry that night so there should be plenty. THe spots that are a little thin are in places no one would see so they'll be ok if they're a little rough, I'll just tell anyone that points em out they're an asshole! Thanks

  19. Nice job on the flake...I cant wait to see it in the sunlight.

BTTT for ya for more viewing!

#1) You don't need to go any finer than 1000 grit before re-clearing it. In fact that's what I use before buffing.
#2) You can hit the dry sprayed spots with the red scuff pads - as long as you get every little nook & cranny - & clear over that. Leave no shinny spots.
Just keep a close eye on it when sanding & you hit the flake stop immediately.

    The 400 is workin' bitchen!

I'm probaly gonna use 800 on the thin spots, and scotch brite the shit outta all the little crevices. I'm drying to be done with it, but it'll be the end of the week at the earliest before it's time to start putting her back together. The new knob grille looks killer with the flake too! Gotta leave the shop to go to work now, Gonna try to finish the sanding when I get off so I can spray the clear tomorrow, apparently it's gonna be the only rain free day of the week.

and what the fuck is giggle cream, that shit is driving me mad.

    j,
did you ever look into the wheels you were telling me about? they would fit good with the paint and drawer knob grille. i forget what was on it before but those cragars with some skinnies would look bitchin'. just be carefull not to hit flake with the 400 as has been said. glad things are happening your way cause they sure as hell aren't here...ken....

Giggle Cream: It's a product advertised on the radio in the video game Grand Theft Auto, Vice City. Wish I had a way to record the audio - it's funny.
There are also times in the game when, for instance, you're in the police car & a cop comes on the radio & says a disturbance was caused by "a couple of punks on Giggle Cream - everything's OK now I beat the shit out of them.". And you can walk down the street & sometimes someone will say "Easy on the Giggle Cream". BTW it's propelled by toxic gas & there is a controversy about it, but the politicians have been paid off to allow production. The game is halarious!
