I hate when they don't listen.

A few years back I was selling my street bike. Got a call from a guy who lived almost an hour away. He wanted to come and check it out and asked if I would take any less for it. I told him I wouldn't take any less that $5k for it and said I'll save your time and mine, don't even bother driving here if you plan on offering me less than that.

Well him and his buddy show up and proceed to tell me with a "smirk" that they have $3500 cash in their pocket and would take the bike off of my hands right there. And acted like they were doing me a favor!

I laughed, closed the garage door and told them to have a nice ride home!

Oh yeah, a week later I got $5400 for the bike!

Actually, after letting this simmer for a while, I met a guy this happened to...he had a bunch of '55-'57 Oldsmobiles, and a ton of parts on his property. Some shitfucker low-balled him for three of the cars and he said no, they weren't even for sale, let alone for that price. Yup, two weeks later he gets a nasty-gram from the county, and HAS to clear them out. The guy who called him in came and bought all of them for just slightly more than scrap price.
He told me this while we were talking about a small, closed corner store on some home-owners property here on a back road. There's a big GULF sign on a pole, and naturally everyone--me included--has asked to buy the sign, and naturally, the store "is going to be restored...some day." The guy who lost his Oldsmobiles told me the way to get the sign is to call the county and tell them there are empty gas tanks burried on the property and that the building is an eyesore. Homeowner guy will have to dig up the property and tear down the building, I can buy the sign.
I really want that sign, and I keep an eye out to see how the property is doing, but I refuse to get it that way. I really, really hope someone else doesn't get that idea though. Not because I won't get the sign, but because that's a shitty thing to do to someone.

This is the most brilliant response Ive seen to some Drama in a long time! I had my ass kicked more than a coupe of times growing up and it taught me a lot. We need more of it in this world...that is for sure.

Should have told him to go ahead and start loading it up and excused yourself while slipping away to report trepassers stealing your property! No threat just asshole Law and bury that first class prick back in his own system!

  9. I had my arse kicked for stupidity a couple of times, learnt the hard way. Its too bad that you couldnt get away with it over there.
I think I would have been is some trouble, too many years in the Army and some very good un armed combat courses made me much more capable than I look. A few people fuckknuckles found that out.

I've run into a few weird ones trying to sell my 1970 c-10. One guy called and offered me what I wanted for it (about 20% below what I advertised it for), but I refused to sell it to him b/c he was so rude and b/c of the questions he was asking. He didn't even get to see the truck in person - I didn't want him to know where I lived.

Another guy came by my house. After he low-balled me, he wanted to see the extra parts I had for it, which were in the garage. He started eyeballing the stuff I have kicking around in there, including my 63 nova and 66 c-10. He started asking about buying them... I told them they weren't for sale and he started getting rude and acting really sketchy. my girlfriend was there and she went inside b/c she was so weirded out by him. I finally got him to leave (I told him we were going somewhere)... and I got his name, phone no and license plate no as he drove away. I was really paranoid for a few days afterwards that something would come up missing.

After my recent experiences, I think this is how I'm going to deal with things. I've actually thought about driving my car over to a friends house that's nearby when someone's coming over to my house to see something that I'm selling.

I would have rented a skid steer and ground those fuxxxrs into iron oxide powder before I would let some smarmy dick smoker cheat me out of my stuff. You want scrap you prick! I'll give you scrap!!!

  12. I'd have taken them to the crusher myself just to make sure this asshole doesn't get them. I've had a guy dick me around for weeks on a '55 Chevy parts car.. every time I tell him to give me a number, he doesn't answer, makes up excuses that he didn't get my email or just doesn't reply, then when I ask about it again, says he replied. I finally told him I'm just going to scrap the thing if it's not sold by the time it snows. He writes back bitching about my atttitude and I just said hey, I'm tired of being dicked around every time I say give me a number, the scrap guy will give me money for it no questions asked, no whining about this being missing or that being rusty or not needing that part over there, so why am I wasting my time waiting for him? I only want $500 for the damn thing, you could pull three things off it, have the rest crushed, and still come out a couple hundred ahead.

As for Salt City's truck, I'd have probably just lied to the guy that it was fine with the zoning... Mattydale is Town of Salina, the books say you can have a non-op on the property for six months without plates, but the zoning guys don't seem to care, I've seen non-ops parked in the same place... I can think of one that hasn't moved in at least two years, the muffler has slowly rotted apart and fallen off the bottom of it.

But all you have to do to make them happy is get plates on it. I had a primer and blue '50 Chevy in the driveway with no headlights or taillights in it, no inspection, just the regi sticker and plates on it, town came by after the asshole next door whined about it, saw the plates, and that was the last I heard of it. The kicker is because a NY reg is good for two years, you can register it, make the town happy, turn in the plates a month later, and you're good for the two years. Have done that before too.

I have 2 HUGE Dobermans that are trained to go "full attack" when someone rings the door bell. I open the door a crack and tell them I'll open the garage door. After I go outside I tell them there is a doggy door into the garage and if one of the dogs comes out,,DO NOT MOVE until I get a hold of the dog!! When I'm trying to buy something and want to 'lowball' I tell them that their price isn't within my budget,,leave my # call in a few days,,I got the guy I bought my car from to drop $3000.00 off the price!!

  15. Wow, threads like this a) teach me something, and b) piss me off vicariously.

Yeah, I can imagine it'd be great to beat the snot out of some lowballing shithook... until I remember that even Elton John could kick my ass.

When I sell something on eGay or Cracklist, I always tell people that they've got to set a time to come over, because the guys I live with are pissed about all my auctions and crap and will just chase 'em off.

Nobody, and I mean nobody sees the inside of my garage. Period. Whatever I want to sell gets dragged outside, or hauled somewhere.

But I usually try to just mail shit out if I can.

In the first instance the correct thing was done, you didn't hit him.I am guessing here, but that guy does it all the time.I have met people over the years who have accumulated huge collections of shit because they intimidated people with their approach.
The threat should have been answered simply with " never draw your weapon unless you intend to use it.."

The advice about taking the plate number while he watches you is very good advice. It stops road ragers in their tracks too!. Especially if you pull out the cell phone and take a pic or two for posterity ....and to post up here so others can recognise their sorry ass.

Got a car for sale in future..Place it right out front so any buyers cannot see what else you have.
Insist that potential 'lookers' supply a name and phone number ,at which point you tell them you'll ring back.Only then do you divulge your own details.
Walk away from any deal that makes you feel unhappy.

So...next time some of you complain here about some old fart who won't even talk about selling his old rusty wreck in the backyard, barn etc think about all the shit for brains fools who have preceeded you.

I live on a highway just out of town where everyone can see my rows of parts cars. I have many tire kickers/dreamers that stop by and want to look. In the middle of one row I have a 76 ford granda that is riddled with bullet holes. Everyone always laughs about whats that POS doing here, I just tellem it's what I sight my high power rifle in with so I'm ready to kill parts stealers. I haven't had anything stolen in the 8 years I've been here. Ron

Years ago when i used to buy and sell alot, i would leave anybody in my shed. i also had 9 dobermans that was mixed with husky and wolf. Very smart dogs that looked like a doberman but strong like a husky and worked like a pack of wolves.

When strange people were over in my shed, I made sure they saw a dog bed and rawhide bones inside. When they question about the dogs(with that many dogs in pens growling they always ask ) I tell them I keep some inside at nite and on weekends when I go out of town. When they ask why so many? i reply one dog with a thief with a gun, the thief wins, 9 dogs and a thief with a gun, thief loses, anyway I'm not allowed to personally shoot any more thiefs so i let the dogs take care of them until I decide to call the cops. Never had a problem since i gotten the dogs.

Now fast forward to this day and age. I very seldom sell parts unless it's over the internet or to local people that I run into or know. If I don't know you or I don't trust you, you don't see in my sheds. I won't even leave my own brother in my sheds. I have only one window in two sheds. That just leaves thiefs a way in and let them make thier plans on what their take is. The only window I have is in the shop side facing down my driveway.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a very easy going person but i hate thiefs. I had people that ask if they can go thru my sheds that i've known for years. Sure, they are welcome to but don't bring anybody i don't know or don't like with ya.

you know, when i bought my truck...the guy admitted he OVER priced the truck. Dropped it down 400 bucks from the advertised price, so i got it 200 less than what I was hoping to offer.

My Father had a guy pull some 'sell it to me or else trick' on him. His response was 'I'll smash it flat with a backhoe before I'll sell it to you.'

Can't say as to what I would do in this instance.

I tell you what I think we (as enthusiants) probably ought to do. You want to come on my land and look at something, I want a photcopy of your licenense and any license of anyone with you. If anything does come up missing, you have plenty of info for the cops to start with.

If I went to look at soemones stuff and they say I've had some problems with people lately and I want to copy of your ID before I'll let you look at my stuff. I'll asses if I want to see it bad enought to give that info out in exchange. If I was serious I'd give up the info.

Slightly O/T but I read this in today's Phoenix paper:

A guy from Willcox sold a used wood stove to someone. They ended up having a spat. The guy heard noises outside around 10:00 one night. Then he heard someone messing aroung with one of his windows.
He went outside with a gun. He saw someone running away.

He couldn't make out who it was.
So, he shot them in the back.
It was a 14 year old girl and a bunch of her stupid little friends playing some prank.

He was charged with several crimes but went to trial and was just found not guilty.
