I'm pretty sure I saw that nomad in a custom car book recently. I remember the flames and colors. I'll look this evening and see if I can find it. Those retangular headlights on the Opal would look killer on a 60's american custom!

Yes, that's the one! Looks like a shrunken Starliner! Cool pics, really shows the similarities of the two cars.
Like u'r racing Capri, too! Very cool!
Here are pics of that french metalflake one, with the Chevy engine.

    Gator,

Are you sure the car came to Germany in 1985? I was stationed at Hahn AFB from 1980-82 and it sure looks like a car I saw a few times, come through the gate and around the base. If I remember right it had a 427 in it, I remember talking to the Sergant driving it and him complaining about the cost of gas even way back then and thinking about swaping out to a small block.

A Friend of mine also has a 1st gen. original RS Capri, that he tries to build together since years.
I just sold my Capri from '83 with a 2,3 six in it..

This is true! That's the reason why they are so popular. Especially with the younger Rockabilly crowd. They are cheaper than american cars, and still look the part. There were other cool old Opels and Fords, too that were made over here. Anyone wants to see 'em? I can post some...

THIS sounds interesting! (Wow the world is small ain't it?!:) )
I'm not sure when it came to Germany, but I know when it was first registered here in Germany. It came through customs on 19th DEC 1986 in Bremerhaven. This is where most cars are taxed, that come in from da states.... But u never know. It could be that car. Maybe it came here twice, or was bought from that sergant or someone else by a guy from Bremerhaven. I don't rhink that there is another one with that treatment and paintjob. The flames look really 60's 70's to me.
A 427, no ****?! That would be my dream engine!
Right now it's a '65 'Vette 327 with the Muncie.

By the way I'm also looking for a 35/36 Ford Coupe, if u know any 4 sale, lemme know!
Also just the body would be great!

That Rekord is sweet - you can make out some styling similarities to my later Manta:

Yeah, the A Manta. I used to have a few of 'em. But without the bulky american safety bumper....:p
I sill have the B Manta, the model after u'rs. It came around '75 on the market, and looks a bit like a Chevy Monza or thing like that.
I do not exactly know why I like this car, but I do. ;-)
In Germany they used to make bad jokes about this car, as it was often driven by mullet guys, with cowboy boots, and blond hairdresser girlfriends ridin' shotgun. Maybe that'S the reason ;-) and that it's still politically incorrect. A V8 in this thing.... mmmhh....would make a bad day for Porsche drivers!

I can't find the pics of that I was thinking of. That nomad is really familiar to me, I think it has a connection to Larry Watson, and it was done in the late 60's as a shop truck for someone. Don't quote me on that though! I'll keep looking, and see what I can find.

Dude I need a cold one now, after this! Do not care it it's early in da morning!:D
These Flames actually look a lot like Watson's!
He is da man, when it comes to flames, I think!
    Cheers, and thanks for looking!

sweet collection, there is a 55 ute down here somewhere looks pretty good too, I had seen pics of those opels somewhere and thaught they were some kind of a German take on the english mark 3 Cortina, front styling is very similar the pillarless look is very nice and like Gaz was saying is similar to the early Monaro roofline etc, Gotta love the GM worldwide styling, I guess the stylists must have had a chunk to do with each other and each others ideas over the years........

The guy that was the lead designer of the Edsel, was sent to England no too long after that.
And there he designed one of the most succesfull English Fords.

    The Cortina Mk1.

    U're right I need serious help!:D
I bought it at the Czech Border in east Germany.
I might sell it again, but I'm not sure right now. It's a lot of work.
Depends on if someone buys my GS Riviera or my '69 GTO.
And I also have eyes on a '68 Charger...

Damn! You are colleting up all the old American cars in Germany!

I can't wait to get down there and check out your "car farm".

I can't make it on the 28th. That is the day I teach the Germans what a Halloween party American style is all about.:D

    Talk to you soon.
