Try explaining a Deuce Hi-Boy to an Indian family at a car show. "What happened to your mud guards, did someone steel them"? You mean my fenders, blank stare? "What are fenders"? I pointed to a Model A nearby and showed them what fenders are. "Did they fall off"? No, I built it this way. "Why"? It's what is called a hot rod. Again, a blank stare, they mumbled something between them and they just walked away. I have no idea what they drive in India but I would bet that there aren't too many Deuce roadsters!
I think they've made it to one of the Islands in the Caribbean. I can't recall what island it was, but I think three of the family members had fallen off. Lynn
Buddy of mine had a 59 Impala, guy asked what year Corvette is that?. He just said 59. Or I get, is that street legal?, what's the gas mileage?, can you drive that?, How much did that cost?, must be nice money bags.......
Not a shows or gatherings, but when asked “what’s it worth?” I usually say “unlike what you drive ..more tomorrow than today”. Not always true but it gets questioned looks….
My extended family could not fathom my ability to find, obtain, repair and operate what were, to them, junk cars....Nor my reasoning for doing it. I just don't find modern cars desirable in the least. I'd ruther feel the satisfaction of driving something that literally scares the pants off someone who doesn't "get it".
