I was looking on e-bay tonight crusing the 51 Chevy stuff and I came across this car. How could ANYONE put that steering wheel and seats in that car? I know "different strokes for different folks" and all but talk about a clash of styles! Here you have this totally beautiful and chromey stock dash with a big**** ugly plastic steering wheel sticking out of it... And the seats are just BAD.

I'm not gonna even bother with the billet wheels cause that's just toooooo easy.

I'm done for now I think.

  3. It's probably the wheel that came with the column they used. Looks like a Chevy truck piece to me.

You kidding...I'm ready to put down my $2000...chop that motherfucka, sell the wheels, seats and steering to my white trash neighbor and flat black it! HA HA HA!!! All it needs is some TLC!

  6. The first thing that I judge a cars interior on is the steering wheel. I hate the smaller type wheels in a car with a large interior. If you are going to swap out wheels, get one the is the same size, or larger like a 20 inch Peterbuilt wheel.

    What a********.

Wow, thats funny...I was jsut thinking this the other day at a show. I saw soo so many cars with wheels like that, and terrible seats, and in really otherwise nice cars!! I dont know if some people like it or what, I mean some of the cars looked completely finished.. [IMG]

in regards to steering wheel size, it is cool to have a small wheel IF it is made from chain and chrome dipped, and in an impala from the first half of the 60s. ot sure why, i think it's in the bible or something.

Its a hell of a lot better than the stock steering wheel sitting at your chest.. I just think it needs a nicer horn*****on.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the bowtie shaped taillights, sharp.

They put it in Vegas, Camaros, and base Corvettes, I had one with a telescopic release on it that I used just as a "roller" while building my truck.
They must have made a bunch of them because they are all over the swap meets all the time.
I still have that horn*****on in the center of the $5 swap meet '54 Chevy wheel I have in it now. I took the Corvette emblem out of that clear plastic center and put a picture of a hairy****** in it instead.

(A picture of my sealpoint siamese cat named gizmo, actually.)

  17. Looks to me like someones low buck build. Hence the stock wheel on the column and the interior out of a Caddy or whatever. Not everyone has bags of money. Probably a fun piece to drive. I guess he could have put together a ricer and made everyone here happy. I don't like the wheels, but then its not my car, so it doesn't bother me. The wheels I had on my 47 weren't everyone's favorite, but I could care a less. I built the car for me. What happened to everyone personalizing their cars to their taste. I thought that was what it was all about. We might as well all by stock Vettes and compete to see who has the cleanest one or all build deuce 3 windows that are period perfect, whatever that is? Just my 2 cents. The opinions expressed may not be mine. I will have to check. Nutz

I dont get the big deal, he made it his own, and he probably doesnt give a***** what others think. Good for him. I dont like the wheel either, but he probably doesnt like mine and I dont care at all.

    ActionGirl,

I see that a lot. There are a lot of people that swap out the column and leave the wheel on that came with it. [IMG]

I am using a Camaro column in my 51 that came with a steering wheel that looked just like that.

I'm running a plain old 15" chrome spoked wheel with the foam grip.

It's just your basic 80s street rod. Not like it's ruined or anything. Unless you have*****loads of money to buy all the old 80s street rods and save them, you're gonna be sad alot.

Sure it has some definite 80's styling. Can you operate a wrench and socket? Just change out the steering wheel, replace the seats, and get new wheels. It seems to me that this car can be made into a cool cruiser without much difficulty.

That car would be a perfect car for a young kid to buy and then fix up, getting some experience building stuff, even if it is bolting on and off stuff. Get his enthusiasm up and then learn while doing. As his skills improve he can work on the stance and the tailights. This car has a lot of potential.

Lay off and learn to see the potential in what is there underneath. Kind of like looking at houses to buy, learn to see the house for what it is, not the color of the paint or the ugly linoleum on the floor.

Seats look like Buick. I bought a Buick once so I could use the Crushed Velour bench seat as a couch in my living room. Sold the rest for what I paid for it. [IMG]

I don't think the issue is that it can be swapped out easily or not. I think the issue is that there are people out there who would finish a project like that and say,

"Damn, now that steering wheel looks 'trick' now that it's black plastic with a modern logo, and not that faded old chrome with the big ugly horn ring. I can't wait until I finally put that carpet over this boring metal dashboard."

    Or something.

Please, It's the finest "Ohioan Leather" Acura ever put in a TL... (Free too!) and stretched and hog ringed over an Astro Van rear seat. [IMG]

And the '60 Elky I am resurrecting had a***** carpet headliner in it and has a 13-1/2" "genu-wine hardwood rim" 70's style steering wheel in it, that's coming out only because the truck doesn't have power steering and my shoulders are big enough thank you.

(I'd like to put a '60-62 Olds wheel and column in it if I couuld get my hands on one. Anyone got one? cheap of course because I am and poor too!) [IMG]

That's just one man's version of "low-buck" Pick up some seats and a colum out of a junk yard, then over to Pep Boys for some "custom" wheels and there you have it. The worst part is that everybody here knows that he has bragged to his friends about the column and seats he installed to "upgrade" his car. This guy might not even have taste in his mouth...
