Customs This once WAS a very rough 1937 Zephyr 3 Window Coupe

Its fascinating to see what a skilled artisan can do with flat sheetmetal. Threads like this are part of what makes the HAMB so cool.

 

I like looking at these pictures trying to imagine what part of the car I'm seeing. This one has me stumped but nice work in any case.

I once by "accident" stumbled onto an adult dating site... some of the ladies pictures... I really had to wonder what body part they had on display..

Impressive rebuilding a body when you have to imagine what was originally there.

 

Wow, that's quite the reconstruction job.

 

Enjoying the reconstruction and seeing the incredible fabrication. Understand the dedication and time involved but wondering about the bottom line cost. Work of this caliber is not inexpensive. Makes sense if you are doing the job yourself, but if you are footing the bill, would it not be better to pay more up front for a car that requires far less time and effort to build? Above is a purely financial consideration. Work is awesome and final result will be also.

 

Meh.... some people spend their down time watching re-runs of The Beverly Hillbillies... Likely this is not done on the prime-time earning hours clock.

That depends on the car, Zephyr coupe fetch a lot of money and are not easy to find, that's also why people are converting 4 doors into coupes.

So very true. While the four door converted cars may not bring as much as an original coupe they still bring a very handsome sum. So in the end the time spent will bring in more than what was spent even in sweat equity. Such a beautiful swept contoured body style design for the time period. They still have the beauty of a custom while they were regular production runs that even today they are very sought after. Never before or since has there ever been a custom from the factory.

 

Thanks for your concern, I will give a little background on myself. A Zephyr is a car I always wanted however when this started and I was about 25 years old I realized real fast that purchasing a six plus figure car was out of reach. I put wanted adds out and scoured the internet for a few years. They were either out of my price range or a sedan. At 29 years old I decided I would settle for a sedan and maybe convert it one day. I had purchased a sedan for a small amount maybe $2500 before the sedan market sky rocketed. Then another sedan came up for sale that was a complete running driver with shiny paint, I purchased that one for 8k. I was able to sell that one for a large margin a year or so later. At about 31 years old I was able to locate the 37 coupe being built no. I know it is in rough shape but I only had to pay 1k for it. I had what people were paying big bucks for or paying to convert with roughly $3500 invested. Now I could slowly invest money monthly in building the car of my dreams. Plus I have a coupe VIN and coupe title. The last time a descent as in no motor needing a full restoration with most of the parts 37 zephyr was on the market it went for 57k. So with the above being said I feel I could put a fair amount into this car and customize it however I want and save a car that well less then 2,000 are left.

 

highluxlow, thank you for your response. It was not my intention to put my nose into your business. Sounds like you have a workable plan in place and I truly appreciate your candor. I also love prewar Zephyrs and Continentals and have acquired quite a few over the years. My most recent acquisition is a 1941 Continental convertible which is reputedly the second '41 off the assembly line. California car all its life and came with a huge lot of spare parts from a second car. The work on your Zephyr is awesome and as you state, you will have the car customized to your taste and know exactly the quality of everything that has been done.
