Jay......This show is called "west Texas Roundup", was advertised in Hemmings. First show I've been to in the Lubbock area that was worth the drive. I also have '57 forum friends that live in Lubbock, so heard about it from him. Probably 20% of the cars there were from Amarillo, but quite a few from Oklahoma as well. A friend from Amarillo told me they had planned it specifically the weekend before the big roudup in Austin in hopes of getting some that drive down from up north to stop. My thoughts are a week before is not close enough. Where is Lamesa?, and what kind of "area around"/distance are you talking about? I really haven't found a good site for North Texas yet, mostly word of mouth. my old computer had some sites for Ok and NM shows. Longroof......Yeah, "Most innovative"...any trophy is great, (a 57 Chevy got "best of the 50's" trophy), but the more I thought about the one I got the more I appreciated it. With all the "unique" (or weird, lol?)stuff I've got on mine, it showed me the judges were actually spending some time taking a good look at the cars. As far as the actual trophy, these hand made sculptures sure beat the heck out of the plastic trophy shop ones.
I live in Louisiana and work south of Lamesa about 20 miles on 829. I have several FB groups at home with car show info but not out here. I am out here 1-2 months at a time and get time off occasionally so it's nice when it works out to catch a show or cruise in. Last year I was over by Pecos and got to catch a few No Prep races at Caprock in Penwell. I spent 5 years working in Ohio and that rocked. Every night of the week there was a cruise in somewhere in the summer. There was big events at Summit Motorsport Park, National Trail Raceway plus several small local tracks. Spring and Fall Swap Meets in Columbus and Canfield. I have to make the best of it when I am gone so much.
Amarillo just had their big car show last month, but there will be a few fair sized ones coming up. Amarillo is 120 miles from Lubbock. Ist Saturday of every month, weather permitting, we have an informal meet at the corner of Bell and Hillside. On a good weather day, there will be over 100 local cars there. Late afternoon..4ish, usually for 3 or 4 hours. I'm hoping for good weather this Saturday! If you're ever up in Amarillo, give me a shout!
