common courtesy says you do not touch other peoples stuff. period. I can't think of any good reason why someone would feel the need to touch someone else's car.

maybe I'm missing something, what thrill do you get by touching someone else's car? is this something you only do at shows or do you do it in the grocery store parking lot as well? do you stop at just cars or do you poke around in their cooler as well?

I nominate this for lame thread of the week.

It happens very quickly, a child steps up on your running board and unknowingly has a rock in the tread of his shoe. He turns to step off the running board and leaves a very deep gouge through all layers of the paint. My cars are drivers with light road rash, but I still expect some respect for my property as I try to respect others property.

I don't see it as offended as much as it is a touchy subject ( pun unintentional)

People bringing their kids to a car show, especially a 13 year old and you would think at that age he would already know better, the guardian should have taught him not to touch the cars, regardless of it's paint or lack thereof.

    Finger prints wipe off.

I can tell you about me blowing my top at a big national car show,I had just finished up a 1930 Model a pickup truck, the smell of the paint still permeated the air when you were stand near the truck and naturally the truck had painted running boards.

I was away from my truck walking around looking at other peoples cars and came back to find both the drivers side running board and fender was scratched up and in a few places gouged to bare metal.

A note was in the seat asking me to come to Wings Callahan's booth and he directed me to a NSRA official who informed me a woman and 4 kids were looking at a car next to mine and they were all in their softball attire one of the younger kids wearing baseball cleats thought my fender would make a great slide and walked up the fender and slid down,,from the looks of it he was on his third slid when the NSRA official ejected the idiot woman and her kids from the show.

He told me her reply when he showed her the damage was,"It's just a old car and her precious baby didn't know any better and cursed him for everything he was worth.

I'm just glad I wasn't there and I'm pretty happy her brain dead son wasn't dragging a baseball bat with him! HRP

Had the OP done a search he would have found that this topic is beat to death. Many threads on this subject get deleted or locked, as this one will. Can't we just enjoy are rides and let others do the same, even if it's not the way you do?

How sad that this thread is aproaching page three in less than an hour, yet great threads drop like rocks. Ironicly I just added to it to...sigh

It's just a simple matter of respect for others folks' property - a concept that is too often overlooked these days by both old and young.

I don't touch other people's stuff even in public parking lots. Its just inconsiderate to do that. Maybe you being in the younger generation think that private ownership is wrong and everything should be public property. Why don't you arrange a car show for kids whereby all cars that show up are there to let the kids examine them all over. That way the people who don't like to have their cars fondled won't even be present.

Possum Jr...........as should be plain to see by now, it seems YOU are the one that is out of step.
I am with those who feel "the car is mine, not yours, so you really should think twice, or better yet, ask permission, before coming into physical contact with it. No matter the quality or value of the paint job".

I agree with the original post to an extent. Not enoff old timers left to share the greatness of how it should be. I've never understood the guys that spend the money to win an award at the local shows. To compete is one thing. Filling your garage with junk trophies awarded frivolously is another. I understand rude jack ***es there a plage. We need more drive ins, car clubs. Build them drive them fix them!

Well, I guess I'm a 'ol grumpy *******", altho I did have a mother and father and the were married (If you don't know the true meaning of the word, look it up...!!!)...and both of those people taught me the word Obama can't spell R-E-S-P-E-C-T. RESPECT means you don't touch what other people own...I've seen way too many youngsters (ages 8-27) that have no idea what that means -I've had to tell those 'youngsters' to 'stop running your fingers/hands over the paint cuz it causes scratches.' And I've had to tell several of those 'youngsters' to "get the hell out of my car' cuz they thought a car show was a place to try on all the cars there. When respect is taught...and when respect for another's items is shown, then and only then will the signs go away...!!!
