The weather was nice enough to take my Impala out for a ride with my 11 year old son and we end up at the local hamburger place. While we are enjoying our lunch inside I see a couple of guys eyeing my car. As they are walking in I over hear them bashing my ride saying it has the wrong rims and it is not really an SS because it has the wrong hood. Well the funny part is the got thier food to go and left in a Kia Rio.
the fact that they left in a Kia..would have been enough for me to know you up staged them. in another year that kia probably will not have an original hood or wheels on it either..if its still on the road that is If i would have been able to say something it might have been somethin like..lets see your car in 30+ years and see how many original parts it has..if it hasent been crushed to make a bic lighter
are you sure those guys didn't work in the burger place? They're probley the type of guys who always screw up your order. How the "F" could anybody in their right mind buy (for big money) and drive a kia, if they know anything about real cars????? Not to mention the guy not driving didn't have anything better than a kia to drive otherwise he would of surely stopped his friend...
I liked your story. I have a couple of cars which have more 'reproduction' and 'tribute' cars than any other. Guys want to tap the fenders...want to tell me all about Shelby lore....as they have learned it from reading the DuPont Registry or SuPerformance ads. Those two dimbulbs that were critiquing your ride probably learned everything they know about classic muscle cars from watching the auto auctions on TV.... "grin and bear it" - most are just jealous and are trying to upgrade themselves by downgrading you and your stuff. dj
Actually I'd say that both of those two were shameless idiots. No decent human beihg could ever want to be seen in a Kia anything, and especially a Rio.
well now hold on guys,....in all fairness i think we should clear up if it is a real SS or not. factually the SS's did have some different features that would make them more distinguished than the regular impala,...one of those items might be the hood. i know the el caminos and chevelles had a different hood to show the ss model. alot of people will simply slap an SS badge on a 283/2bbl car and call it a day. those burger dorks may have had a valid point. now that said....either way who really gives a crap? if you are out cruising it and have a good time with your kids thats all that really matters right? enjoy the car for what it is....top down fun with your kids. those are the memories he will share with his kids. but at the same time if its not an SS burger dork had a point.
That was a gut busting story not to mention some of the comments already. Those two maybe work at the local Chop N Tune for Tuner modifications. Might even have big plans for the Kia. Oversized spoiler ground effects sporty wheels and a 2.4 liter somethin or other.
A kia?? hahaha..They are just jealous that you could blow their car away with your exaust when reving!
Great story.the good news is you have an Impala. Those are alot more fun than any new car most likely SS or not.As far as the KIA guys ....maybe it makes them feel good to at least talk about a cool car since they obviously arent in one.Hopefully the burgers were good
Seems like the guys who have the most criticism for you are the ones who drive lame pieces of shit. There's a guy who lives in my hometown that gave me some similar bullshit. I have a GTO Judge clone and he gave me the line "it's not a real one, but I still like it", real condescending, like I should be ashamed of it since it's not numbers matching. He drives a Ford Aspire. It seems like the guys who drive cool stuff, only have good things to say. They don't have to be jealous.
Every A****** has an opinion. But what do they drive or even own. I was in my Friends T Bucket and two kids walk by Bashing it. Picking it apart. I have never seen him get Mad. My Friend starts and says HEY.... What do you own? What do you drive? I got this on the road in 16 hours!!! Its NOT Done yet. Etc Etc. They slowly walked away
It is a sad comment on our times that Americans will buy a foreign car named after an abbreviation from the Vietnam war that refers to our soldiers Killed In Action.
That usually sums it up pretty well. I used to entertain myself at cruise-ins or shows by hanging out next to the car parked beside my '62 Corvette so I could listen to everyone's comments. Sometimes I got useable information but the worst critics normally drove off in beat up crap. I'm not saying they didn't have a Corvette Grand Sport parked in the garage at home. At one show, some clown was standing next to my car pretending that it was his as he's talking to the people walking by and looking. Here's the other side of the coin that's also funny: I'm at a show looking over a guys 54 Corvette for a long time but nobody is around the car. I had just bought a project 54 and was looking at the parts mine was missing, just so I knew what to look for. I was a member of the National Corvete Restorers Society and wearing an NCRS hat. Out of the blue this guy comes storming over and tells me to get the FOCK away from his car and he doesn't care what the NCRS thinks about his originality. After I tell him my story, he calms down and I ended up buying a few needed parts for mine from him.
I hear ya! makes me nuts sometime.... drove a good pal of mine over the top a few time .... if you want some more humor.... read his rant he penned a few years before he passed away here> http://bernhardt.us/meadowlands/members/rich.htm
