Sorry to hear about your car! Just be glad your O.K. though! I read this thread the night before last and it scared the **** out of me and so the first thing I did yesterday morning was went out and bought a small fire extinguisher to keep in the Chevy. So, yesterday evening I'm welding up some of the open trim holes on the p***enger side door and I notice some smoke coming out of the top of the door. It always smoke a little when welding up holes but this was more than usual. So I opened up the door and peeled back the door panel and sure enough, the sound deadening on the inside of the door was on fire! I tried to blow out the flame but it was way too big. Luckily I had the fire extinguisher sitting in the back seat so I got the fire out before it got to big to do any real damage. It did bubble the old paint on the outside if the door a bit but thats about all. It scared the **** out of me though! I bought that fire extinguisher not expecting to ever have to use it and I ended up having to use it that same day.
Agrees with Gordon ...get mad at the situation and salvage it ... thats what happens to me the pisser offed I get ...etc go for it .. rb
That ****s. I know the feeling. It happened to me last August. It wasn't as bad for me because it was an '85 truck, but was still very inconvenient and wasted some money I didn't have. I think it was the underhood wiring. I'm now starting to get obsessed about having nothing but excellent wiring in my projects.
bummer dude!cool that nobody got hurt. whats even cooler is all the guys on the hamb stepping up to help get your ride back on the road. time to host a " 53' chevy reserrection party" like the one 's when the guys chop a top. get the barbacue fired up and make a date. bet the hamber's could get it back on the road in a weekend. good excuse for a party.
sorry for your loss man, looked like a sweet car! but you'll pull through just like any other red blooded hot rodder out there.
Thanks guys, it was pretty nerve racking when it happened. I wont have another car with out a fire extinguisher in it. Everything went good with the insurance and I got another car im really happy with and the chevy got parted out. Thankfully it all ended up ok.
The only thing worse than no fire extingusher is an empty one; luckyly i found a garden hose nearby. Probably could have been avoided had I been running an air filter at the time. .....Bob
