Hey All...I have a thm350 in my 55 chevy Rag, and plan on doing a 200r4 swap. Currently the car has an aftermarket shifter through a Custom Console. Will I be able to use the 350 shifter with the 200r4? Trying to round up all needed parts before taking out the 350. Thanks for any Input.

Maybe it'll work good. Maybe you won't be able to get 1st gear. You didn't tell us what kind of "aftermarket shifter" it is, so we'd just be guessing.

I don't know what's in there, and wouldn't know until I tear it apart. Someone who knows Transmissions may have some kind of insight.

Maybe you could take a picture of it? Then the folks here who know Transmissions might be able to help you figure it out.

I think you can make it work for 2,3,4th gear it just will not pull down in to 1st gear. I have same trans in my tri5 and I didn,t change detent on column and it will not pull in 1st,but it downshifts into 1st at WOT because that's not a function of the linkage but of pressure. Ralphie

As indicated the 350 has 1st, 2nd and Drive. The 200 will have 1st, 2nd, 3rd and drive. It is unlikely you will be able to use the current shifter if it has a pattern for a 3 speed.

If you set up the shifter so N is neutral then it will work, as stated you will not be able to manually put it in first gear. How often do you do that?

It will work just fine, you cant shift into 1st gear like the others have said but it will work just fine.

The Wife's Buick has a 2004r shifted by the factory 2 speed column shifter and I didn't even have to adjust anything to get it to work.

I bought a F-1 with SBC and turbo 350. It has a lokar shifter, long stick and had poweglide shift knob. The stick hit the seat and would only go to drive or third, and reverse was hard to engage. We adjusted the mechanism when changing trans fluid and now easily goes in all gears and does not hit the seat or dash. I was surprised that it could be done. So put new 3 speed shift knob on and never looked back, except when in reverse.

There are some aftermarket shifters that will work with 4 speed automatics, or with 3 speed automatics. since you didn't tell us what kind of shifter you have, it's a guessing game, as you can see by the responses above.

If you are one of those people that has to look at the gear selector to know what gear you are in....then it won't work. It will shift it, but the gear indicator won't line up with all the gears.

If the ratios are correct the indicators should line up perfectly
