I never heard those "words of wisdom before"!!!!

I have been into "hot rods & drag racing" since I built my first Revell model car back in the mid-50's.... The "Stone, Woods & Cook" Willys.... did I built it as intended??? H*ll NO!!!! Couldn't keep my hands off of it.... HA!!! Ended up painting it DARK BLUE METALFLAKE :D (after all those years I still have most of it) ;)

After the motor blew in the Opel, we decided rather than just "throwing it together" to get it running again we are going to take our time & do a lot of the things which were planned as Winter projects, etc. as we get the $$$$ together to do it RIGHT!!!!

All the nostalgia drag racers with "high end quality gassers" are an inspiration to ALL hot rodders .... especially the low-buck backyard hot rod builders.

Keep up the good work. It keeps ALL of us going .... especially when unexpected setbacks happen.

Hope to see you again at Thompson in September????

Yeah, I was happy when I saw we were lined up together. I figured that would be a good photo opportunity with the two blue cars.
We both had similar et's so it would have been a good looking race, if I hadn't have fallen asleep on the line.

Greg, It's a good thing (for me) that we didn't line up against one another!!! You just might have taken pitty on me and taken it .001" EASIER on me - thus cutting a perfect light and handing me my a$$. Whew - dodged another bullet!!! :)

Always great seeing you and your lovely wife - wish we could have shot the bull a bit longer!!!

The toip four qualifiers had a shootout. The rest of us FEDs/ /As ran in a separate class. I think I counted ten that lined up for the first round.

We're sorry to have missed you this year Dave. I hope you come out next year with something bad.

The 409 guys really ADD a special flavor to the meet. I was there a few years ago when they first came to Thompson for the Gasser Reunion.

Have always liked 409's.... had quite a few friends that had them back when they were "new cars".... ha!!! One was a Z11 Biscayne.

Of course at the time we did not realize how special and rare that car would become. Back then it was just a fast "plain Jane" car"!!!!!

It was nice to see some of the 409 racers still running 4 speeds, it was even nicer to hear them slam through the gears. Hope they run in september.

Great pictures! Once again, thanks for the link.

  16. The announcer was talking about a car/coupe that was for sale.
I couldn't see anything but a dark blue or black streak and an Orange ish streak.
Anybody know which one he was talking about ?

Watched the return road but didn't see anything

    Thanks

No question the racer turn out was great even for an all day Friday Rain. How was the spectator turn out? Many vendors there?

It's a shame events like this don;t bring in more spectators with all the effort the participants put in.

It was a pretty packed place, Real nice spectator turnout, I think someone said it was the second largest crowd in the 10 years or so they have had it.

  19. Hey b'bob!

Thanks for the heads-up PM. I couldn't reply 'cause I was real busy getting ready to go.

Vendor turn out was okay, maybe a dozen vendors, but good stuff! Being my first time there I would say that spectator attendence was pretty good as well. Although the stands weren't full, there were alot of cars in the parking lot.

My only bitch is that I was charged 2 days spectator fee for my wife, only got 1 day (due to rain) and the track did not refund the $20.00 for the 2nd day (so far). I'm keeping tabs on this and will post about any results. Personally, I shouldn't have had to pay for 2 days when there was only 1. Nobody else (that I'm aware of) did.

First impressions are always a sign. Screw me once, you won't get the opportunity to screw me again.

Well that's good to hear ! It's a shame that many events are not well attended with the amount of effort and expense both the track and the participants put in.
Everyone one complains about the costs of fuel and entry.....that cost is NOTHING compared to the cost of building, transporting and racing the car, let alone breaking something in the process.
    Glad it was well supported

He was talking about the "Scott Rod" 34 ford coupe with the blown sb. chevy. I believe he was asking $35,000 . Scott is a regular at Thompson.

  22. Anymore info on the flat black Model A coupe? That thing is killer...
