Well the rat posion We where using (D CON) quit working. The rats became resistant. Then the next type quit working. They reduced the poison content because folks where worried that a sick rat might get ate by a owl or hawk. Now we are using a brand called JUST ONE BITE. Made by Farnam. And its working really good. 8 one pound bars cost $35.
I wondered about that, I was surfing eBay and remembered those wedge shaped boxes we used to use. So I found a bunch of listings but, they wanted some insane price, like $65 for a 3 pack or something like that. Turns out that was the old stock "good stuff", before EPA mandated everybody has to use the poison-free rat poison. ****ers.
I bought the One Bite from a feed store in Missouri. I haven't seen it for sale in Arkansas. In England apparently the poison is worthless. There are guys who have a large number of Rat Terriers who go around to farms and the dogs kill the rats. They kill hundreds in a day sometimes. I seen U Tube Videos of the rat killing dogs. Those dogs looked like they where having the most fun!
Ive used a 55 gallon barrel set net to the wall. with about a foot of water in the bottom and grain floating on the water. It worked. But only caught the rats in the barn. Ive got those Pack Rats that fill vehicles up with blackberry canes and dried manure and tear the stuffing out of seats. They are territorial and will not let other rats family's in their nest And forage area. My neighbors don't poison and create excellent pack rat habitat. The bale those big round bales. full of seeds and other food. When a litter matures its ran off by the parents and they must find a new home. So we keep getting reinfested.
When I bought this roadster from a guy in Iowa it had rat nest in the gas tank ,in the rear of the trunk down in the tightest spot they could find. I drained the oil from the ****** & found an acorn. Figure that one out as the top was on. I had a 85 GMC with a 454, A friggin rabbit ate the #1 plug wire from the cap to the plug. It at part of the AC wiring. I put a jump trap under the hood & caught several rabbits. One day I opened the hood on my 67 rivey & there was a rockchuck setting on top of the ****** looking up at me & there was a rock chuck setting on top of the ****** looking up at me. First thought I had was to blow it away but then reality set in & I just slammed the hood down & he ran off. Pic is the acorns from my ******.
Yep, I realize a lot of folks dont like them, but I think of them as extremely low-maintenance working animals, as well as pets. My yard, house, barn, garage, garden and vehicles are free of destructive rodents, for the price of some Purina Cat Chow.
Contrary to popular belief cats will not eradicate rats. cats very much prefer to hunt birds. especially song birds. house cats are not native to the Americas. No house cat should be allowed to roam free. They destroy ground nesting birds like quail nest and chicks. also kill baby bunnies. Worse yet Your free roaming pet will mingle with feral cats and bring disease to your home. Spinal Menengitas is just one horrible disease cats carry. Also who want to be in a house where a cat has shed hair ? A guy gave me a large number of junk cars. They where full of pack rat nest. They had several cats. and a mother had kittens. They where trying to get me to take the kittens. bragged about them being good mousers. It was almost dark and the guys wife set out some cat food. And pack rats almost as big as the mother cat came out and started filling up their cheeks and carrying that cat food away. Those cats just set there and watched them. Ive had folks pet cats come and eat my chicken eggs and eat baby chickens. The only way to eradicate rodents is by removing food and habitat. I cannot do that because my neighbors create habitat and food source with those round bales. By spring when they have fed all of those bales. The rats start looking for a new home. So my best option is poison.
I forgot about that tool box in that van. Many many years ago the railroad group was donated a 75-ish Suburban to use as a work truck and it ran but poorly. We drove it back and forth down the dirt road a couple times and with a bang the muffler fell off. Then it ran great. Muffler had a mouse nest inside.
Dang! I built a bigger bucket trap, next morning peanut ****er gone, nothing in the water. How are they doing it?
