Saw the Lowrider display at The Petersen in the fall of 2007, unbelieveable detail and workmanship.

I have a DVD en***led "Ca Lowrider Scene BOMB special edition" by Scene Productions Ca. purchased at Paso Robles in 2006. It is fantastic viewing. Anybody know of any others that I can get my hands on. Not a lot of lowriders downunder. Thank you for reading
PM me if you wish. Cheers

  3. I agree; the nicest looking lowriders are clean and simple, in my opinion.

Some of you are using the term low-rider and bomb like they are interchangable and the same, and they are not.

I started a thread some time ago "Show us your 42-48 Buick, Olds and Pontiacs". Archangel sent in some amazing Bomba pics. If you are into these kind of cars at all you should check it out. He also included some Caddys in there.

    This from my Mezcan bud:
( Won't even say what he calls me...)

Lowrider does not refer to the car, a lowrider is the person driving and the
    lifestyle.

Bombs can be driven low or high
All others,(usually58 and up) can be driven low or high.

Most people ***ume if its low its a lowrider no matter what it is or who's driving.

Your probably right, the general, uneducated m***es.
I do not consider my 47 Olds a lowrider, even though it sits pretty low off the ground for a fat fendered Olds without bags and I've never heard any of my friends calling it that. Nor is my Dad's '56 Olds which is even LOWER to the ground then mine.

I would bet though lots of my streetrod, original cruisers, and muscle car pals hadn't even heard of the term Bomb till Livn the Low Life came on cable. I'll never forget the night just this past cruzn season where I was defining scallops, lace, flake, tribal flames, channeling, sectioning, rat rod, patina, etc to a group of pals. I was in shock the lack of general knowledge and terms.

I would never call my Olds a Bomb either even though by the year of the model it would fit the "catagory" IF, and only if, it was styled and accessorized like a Bomb.

I'm kinda glad I guess he has a name, Big Olds, as "***ling" him could get confusing.:D

Well, I'm going to use the term lowrider and bomb somewhat interchangeably and a tad bit liberally, when talking about my "Bettie Bomb"; AKA Fleetline. I feel as though, I am somewhat en***led to, liberally use these terms as they are synonymous with the style and car culture I grew up around. I hope that by my doing so, no one is offended, or would attempt to tell me that I can't cl***ify my car, or myself as such. Because, I do cl***ify my bomb as a lowrider, as the very first inception or conceptual lowriders that came to be, were bombs. Moreover, my cultural background lends itself to, at least in some way, fitting with in this genre of automotive styling.

Ok, I'm getting off my soap box, now to return it to its rightful owners.:)

Of course call yours whatever floats your boat, I'd be the last one to tell ya any differently, but in general terms would you call any of the following "Bombs"?

My opinion, and of course everyone is en***led to theirs, these are "Low-Riders" and what I grew up viewing as low-riders in the late 60's and early 70's in SanDiego/ElCajon where I'm originally from. Of course not done to these extremes. (does anyone even do the dingle balls from back then any longer):D

On the flip side I would call your Chevy, and ones done like yours, a Bomb first before I said the word low-rider but again this is just me compartmentizing.:D

  13. No way Denise...you grew up in San Diego/El Cajon?...my grandparents used to live off of Richfield in El Cajon and I used to come out from Indiana every summer and hang out there...thought you looked familiar! Did ya ever hang out on second street on Fridays and Saturdays?

I lived on Lindsey Street and went to both El Cajon Jr High and HS till we moved. Second Street is where I longed to go and I would BEG my mother and her girlfriend to take me cruzn every weekend night, and they humored me and off we went. My Father was in the Navy and gone aboard ship alot. (Enterprise and Midway) I started dating at a very young age (14) and would cruz in my boyfriends cars when my Mom thought I was at the library or at the mall with my girlfriends.

My folks moved us to Detroit as soon as my Dad retired from the Navy (20 years). If I still lived there I know you and I would be best buds and I'd be hanging out in your shop all the time.:D

  15. The mall must have been Parkway Plaza...second street was the happenin' place until the mid 80's...when I moved out here as a young adult that was the first place I headed...nothing like that going on in Indiana...small world...El Cajon definitely isn't the same as it was back then though there is a decent cruise every Wednesday night for about 2/3 of the year...steep price for admission to my shop...at least a dozen cookies

  19. Denise how in the hell did ya end up in SNOW country???......as far as the term "LOWRIDER" it has always had a double meaning 1-the car with tru-spokes/wires and great paint mostly lowered or juiced-2 the lifestlye and the dedacation of the familys that live the lifestyle.Bombs have always been the top of the lowrider world.I admit Ive been outa the show for a while however I did show the lowrider series in cali for a couple of years and had my car photographed for lowrider mag back in the early 80s.....JMO;)

Some of us still do.:) Even though our car club(Los Boulevardos) has a focus on customs and traditional lowriders of the 60's, many of us love 70's style ranflas too. I grew up on them. Nothing beats Truspokes, 5.20's, 8" steering wheels, and curly-q pinstriping.:D

This is my 73 Caprice that was my daily for a while. I gave it the dingleball treatment and made the chandelier from scratch. This damn car almost got more positive reactions than my 53 Olds. People loved the interior.

As far as the Bomb/Lowrider label...A lowrider is not always a bomba, but a true bomba is always a lowrider.

multiple function-#1-with a really low car, the tires scrub EVERYWHERE. If You just spent half a years salary on paint...them itty bitty ones don't get anywhere near the bling.
#2-cheap couple of inches out of total ride height. (not that 100 spoke daytons will ever be "cheap" but You get my drift)
#3- the cars themselves are (typically) about as far from a performance car as You can get. the object is low and slow...just cruise it. it's easy to get by with short tires if You're not trying to set any records.
#4. They look cool. admit it. it may not be my personal thing (well, I did try to talk the wife into 13 triple gold d's and pinners on her Bel Air...so mabey it is) but it looks great if they suit the style of the car. kinda like hand paintd "wood" inside of them. we work on a 48 dodge, and until I saw it, I was unaware that You could produce a reasonable facsimilie of Birds eye maple with enamel and a brush.

as far as the "bomb" versus "lowrider" thing...I concur with denise- They are different types of car, but both fall under the larger heading of "lowrider"

and Yeah...It annoys the heck out of the Homies if You mix the two incorrectly. kinda like how snitty we get if someone was to gaze upon a kustom and cal it a hot rod, or look at a lakes car and call it a dragster.

they are kinda the same thing...but not really. You kids dig it?

Dad retired from the Navy (20 years) so we moved to Detroit where both my parents grew up and every single one of our family members lived, right down to 4th cousins. At the age of 37 my Dad started another 22 year career with the Ford Motor Company. Dad worked his *** off his whole life to make sure his family was taken care of. Now my folks are living the good life, enjoying everything they've earned and I'm very proud of them both.

Only 12? a visit always calls for a few dozen.:D

    Means "car" right??

Quick question for anyone, is there a difference between Bomba and Bomb?

I thought I would throw a few more Bombs on this thread for everyones viewing pleasure. Again, I did not take any of these.

Oh yes, I see. I emphatically agree. None of the preceeding cars would be labeled "bombs". Those are definitely lowriders. I misunderstood, before. I realize now, you weren't initially talking to me.:D My bad.

Although my Spanish isn't the greatest:), bomb and bomba are synonomous. The later being the Spanish cognate of an English word. A sort of "translitteration" if you will.
