...for the front of my roadster. Just to get me through the HAMB drags and the rest of the year. The thought was I'd end up with ribbed 'stones next year.

So I've been pricing MC tires and I've found that anything with a tread pattern that looks remotely cool is at least as expensive as the ribbed fronts or Deluxe Champions. As far as I'm concerned anything with a chevron pattern of any kind isn't an option - just looks too much like a sport bike tire.

Now I'm not looking to start another post on why some people think they're unsafe and other think they are perfectly fine. I just want to hear from the guys running these (MC tires). What exactly are you running (make, model, and size) and where did you get them?

I just ***umed they were the cheaper option for a traditional looking front. Dead wrong I guess? Corky if you're reading this I guesss I'll be calling you soon.

I got these from the local motorcycle dealer. They are "Chengshin Tire", size 140/90-16 (550-560-16), style "C S Marquis". They were $42.00 each and that was the main reason I went with them. I didn't want to send Coker one of my arms and half a leg just for front tires. :D They are working real well on the 1900lb. roadster.

Why not just spring for the ribbed Firestones now. The cheapest motorcycle tires may cost half as much but it seems like wasted money when your going to but the firestones later anyway.

  8. I just ordered a pair of 5.00-16 Indian tires from Coker for $100 each. Not here yet but they should look pretty vintage.

Grim, I've got some on the shelf that would look pretty cool.

Although 15's would get that thing down with the rest of us. :D

I'll trade you these cool striped door panels I found in the corner of my garage for them. :)

Looks like it's going to come down to the yearly parts hand-off at the HAMB drags huh?

Ben - I was joking - pretty sure I can get them local. Still waffling between getting them and going full bore with the ribbed fronts though.

Just buy the stones, if your worried about running 15" tires you will NEVER be happy with the look of MC tire on the front, and you 'll be pist about the money you spent on them instead of getting the stones.

  17. Get the Firestones and get over it.

You've worked very hard to make your car exactly the way you want it and what you feel a car of that nature SHOULD be. Don't cheapen your vision at this point. Pony up for the 'stones. I know they are pricey so start promoting your wheel discs more! (and stop posting pics of your car without them, it's bad for business! ;) )

  23. Where do you ****in Rocket Scientists (no offense to RScrhris) think that the rubber in ALL tires comes from? You see any rubber plantations in Detroit? Didnt think so, try Asia, why do think the Japanese wanted to rule that part of the world in WWII?

Grim, it isnt about cost in the end, pick the tires that fit YOUR cars style. If you really want Stones, spend the coin. In 2 months you will have forgotten about the cost (wife might not:D)!

    Grimlok,

Coker sells excelsior repops too, i am running their 5.25 16s on my mod, and they seem like a decent tire, i think i payed 68 a piece for them, and they definalty look traditional.

I bought a set to try out on the front of the roadster figuring they were half the price, but after getting them an extra $100 would have been worth it for the Stones. The Stones just look right. I haven't tried them on the road yet.

Yes, impressive. The other reason I went with the motorcycle tires is that they are a radial design. I have big fat radial TA's on the rear, and as everybody knows, it's not a good idea to mix radial and bias ply tires. The third reason is that I have a couple '36 Ford spare tire covers that somehow got made into motorcycle fenders and a pair of Model A rears that somehow got cut down and adapted to a '27 body. (Not installed yet.)
I got a little sideways last night (showing off for a friend) and she straightened right up with a little brake/throttle work. As for "Hard Core Traditional"; maybe so, but I like things to work right too. (Hense the alternator, electric fan, auto fan switch, new gauges, pressurized radiator, puke tank, and the radial tires; you get the idea.
