Ok, did anyone else get up early saturday morning and stare at the test patern on the TV while waiting for Howdy Doody to come on? "hey kids, what time is it?"
097 How about some poor person with Polio that was in a iron lung that ues to go around the state fairs I'm Pennsylvania German we still eat Lunch at 12:00 and super at 5:30 Pegged pants One button roll suits Shirts with Mr. B collars Adding machines Most Drs. that tried Camels, went back to women, oops.
Man oh man! These two took me right back. Lifesavers were in my stocking EVERY year until 2002 (when my mom passed, I was 36!). And Sunday night, the bath, PJ's and then falling asleep on the den floor watching Wonderful World of Disney! Holy moly man, thanks for bringing back some seriously good memories!
Watching "Little Rascals" on channel 5 on Saturday mornings- "Bugs Bunny & Road Runner" and laughing my ass off at Foghorn Leghorn because he reminded me so much of my uncles in North Carolina. The richest kid on the block had a Minibike, and we all used to hope he would let us take a spin on it- Great memories. Thanks, guys...
Over 50 is elderly?! Shit........kill me now. Guess I'll just go out and stock up on my Geritol and Depends. Somebody help me up..................
Wow!!! I just read this whole thread (and only fell asleep twice). I was wondering when you kids were going to stop posting so I could put some memories of my own on. Well, now it's my turn and I've forgotten all of the ones I was going to post. Walter, (Fat Hack), has diagnosed me with Alsheimers anyway so I'll use that as an excuse. Some of you guys are remembering things that were in the future for me and your recalling them as "old events". Ray (Safariknut) and I will be down at Kresge's having a fountain made cherry Coke if any of you want to discuss this further. Frank (62 years old and hopefully won't be here when the future we're headed for arrives)
Just thinking about where we're heading these days... and had some fond memories... and I remembered this thread! I remember sitting on the 50 yard line at Lambeau field watching the Packers during their "Super Bowl" reign. Then my Dad traded those tickets for "End Zone" season tickets because the fans could Keep the balls after a field goal or extra point...! We had several "DUKE" footballs signed by "ALL" the players that we used to play with on the streets!!!! Plus we would watch the Milwaukee Braves at county stadium and would get "FREE" baseball bats...! I had mine signed by Henry Arron, Ed Mathews, and Ted Kubiak...! Then my little brother took it out to the sandlots and smeared off the signitures by hitting the ball and then by hitting fence posts, trees, and buildings on his way home. How about using Hank Arron baseball cards in the spokes of the bicycle for that "True" Harley sound...! If it were'nt for my brother and I destroying mass quantities of Rare memorabilia... the collectors wouldn't be able to get the money that they do for these items...!!!! Hahaha!!!! Watching "Roller Derby" and "All Star Wrestling" with the "Crusher" against "Mad Dog Buschon"...! Staying up all night with my Scout flashlight to see the radio dial and listening to AM stations "skip" signals from hundreds of miles away... Frequently listened to WLS Chicago and knew that WLS was owned by Sears and the call letters stood for "Worlds Largest Store" and WGN Was owned by the Chicago Tribune and the call letters stood for "Worlds Greatest Newspaper"...! I remember my Dad driving under a bridge or through a tunnel and loosing the AM signals... and High tension wires would create so much static you'd think your ears would bleed! Watching Black and White Movies on a 10" round TV... And did I mention missing the "Sonic Booms" of super sonic aircraft ...!
Remember lots of these--born in 43-- when I was 10 or 11 would ride down main street in Madera with shotgun on my handlebars--go out and shoot pheasants and ride back home-if a cop stopped you, all he wanted to know is where you got the birds--would be arrested now !! Remember those machines like xray things that you put your feet in at the store to buy shoes ? Remember Buster Brown shoes? "This is my dog Tige, he lives in a shoe,I'm Buster Brown, look for me there too!" or something like that. Remember listening to the Shadow (The Shadow Knows) on the radio and getting scared-sponsored by Signal Gasoline , also The Whistler--scary when I was little--this was before we got TV. Had a gun rack at School for your rifles-by the coat closet-can you imagine that today? Our car in 48-49 was a black 41 Ford Convert that my dad bought before the war-drove it everywhere-don't ever recall it having any problems, even going over the Grapevine in the summer to L.A.-was a neat car for the time.
Going over the Grapevine back to L.A. we would join the crowd at the watering station and let the 46 Chev. cool off. Riding a streetcar to Hollywood to go to the movies or going to the local movie on Sat. for the matinee to watch the serials. Going shopping in downtown L.A. by myself. Riding bikes to Santa Monica and going to P.O.P.. Phone numbers were NOrmandy or HOllywood not 66 or 46. Watching Captain Jet or Howdy Dooty. Fe Fi 55 Ford at your dealers now, Kelley Kar Ko. at Pico and Figueroa which is is now the Sports Arena was a big Ford dealer. The cops and fire engines had mechanical sirens that each had unique sounds. 6 volt batteries, tube radios that only were AM. Good Humorman, milkman, Helmsman 4 or 5 different newspapers in town. I sold Herald Express on corners while going to grammar school and Jr. High. Flying A Gas Wilshire Gas were stations I worked at. You shopped at a local market there were no or hardly any Supermarkets. I think it was better than.
Ernie Kovaks! Man! I'd love to see some of his old shows. The Nairobi Trio! ha haha Here is a YouTube link for the trio.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Uw03hS_EMY

Keep the info coming, it's good reading... Oh yeah, in the seventies, my parents were the first in our small town to get a waterbed. I remember it was a stretch for my middleclass parents to pay for but they loved it. I think they paid $300 for it. My dads WHOLE years bonus, probably. My brother finally ended up throwing it in the trash 5 years ago. So, I guess you could say we got our 300 bucks worth huh? Cheers and beers Hodge

I love elvis, 59 impala is my favorite car, and am stil made at carter for the metric system lol.

*Transistor radios *AM stations *Watching "Portland "wrestling on Saturday nights with my 80 plus yr old Grandmother - she loved Dutch Savage. *3 in one or 'Stylizing' model kits *88 cent stores *Watching doughnuts going up conveyor belts and falling into hot oil at the Mayfair Market *Laughing at crappy toys that said "made in japan' and hoping that no one bought us any for Christmas or birthdays *Begging Dad to take me to the new car dealerships in October or so for the new car showings....hoping to get a dealer promo model! *The smell of a Lifesavers book in your Christmas stocking *Dad Blowing the 'carbon' out of moms station wagon on Sunday. *Taking a bath on a Sunday night after dinner, and looking forward to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom followed by the Wonderful World of Disney. *The slot car track down the street - how cool the guys there were, never could afford one. *Seeing a GTO go down the street and chirping the tires in 3 gears - how the heck did they do that?? (Mom and Dad always had automatics).... Anyone remember virgins? Do they still make them?
I've read this a couple times now but how about starter switches on the floor...anyone else? I didnt graduate high school 'til 94 and I had a gun in the truck almost every day I went. No time to go home and get it before hunting after school. We could have defended our high school from a small army from just the guns and ammo in the parking lot...and that was only 14 years ago. The national guard would be called in now for that kind of stuff.
Yeah, my dad had a '38 Plymouth with the starter switch on the floor. My '45 has the dimmer switch on the floor. My Uncle had a Cadillac that had an eye on the dash and it dimmed them automatic .. don't think it worked real good though . .good idea though
