he didn't order them to stop it, he wanted people to stop at three to remember our vets, it was NASCARS decision to stop, I did like waltrip talking about how some of the crew guys were vets, I didn't know one of Marks guys had lost a brother over there. I'm glad they held it, they brought up a good point that a lot of service guys often stay up till two or three AM there to watch these races over there, armed forces carries the races. They would have been disapointed to have it not held, rain and all. Doc thank you for your service, I appreciate it,as well as all the other vets, serving is what allows us to not always agree with others, and to be en***led to our own opinion. Besides whats more American then lots of horsepower and going really really fast, even if it is in a circle. :Di

  6. Don't tell that guy mad about the pace car being a Toyota, who actually won the race when Nascar threw in the towel at about 6:30 PM after another long rain delay -

I thought it was cl***y for them to stop like that, especially given they'd already stopped for rain once before and they still hadn't made it to the halfway point to make it official yet. If it had started raining hard then, they'd have been kinda screwed.

(by the way, the winner was David Reutimann, also in a Toyota)...

Us old folks grew up watching and learning as kids the real meaning of the day. Many of us experienced losing a friend or a buddy.

I get goose bumps when the jets fly low over the track during the anthem. This small show of respect and honor had me a little misty eyed. The young kids don't watch the concert on the mall or the president presenting the wreath on the news. They don't learn what it represents. It's just a day off from school. A young kid watching on TV surely will get that it must be a big deal for them to stop the race in the middle like that. It impressed me!!

  8. Ok, I didn't know it was a rain delayed race. I think the wet weather program for NASCAR should be the same as our V8 Supercars........ Get WET while DRIVING!

Once again I didn't put my point across as I really wanted it to.
I'm still annoyed by events being held on days like this Memorial/ANZAC I always will. That it was planned for another day, cool I get it but in respect they could have declared a day of morning and raced another day.
If the major sports all sat down and said, today is a national day of mourning we are holding no events in respect of they who gave so much, that would draw much more attention than a quick stop in a race.
I do respect that they did something, they just need to step it up a bit.
I guess Imam biased toward it.
    Doc.

really a toyota block with a car fabricated by hand here, not much Toyota in it, just a name on the grill. is there any "stock" left in them? :D remember someone won a Nascar race in an MG one time, but it's still cooler then the Toyota

What really chaps my *** is the furniture store sales that use Memorial Day to make money on all week.

God Bless our soldiers, ALL of them

An MG raced in Nascar in 1960, and again in 1963, Bowling Grey stadium.
in 1960, it ran 1 lap, and in 1963 it ran 12 laps. It didnt win by any means.

As for stopping the race, it brought a tear to my eye for sure!

Every day is Memorial day to any of us that have lost friends and or family in a war, and it was nice to see that for a few moments we werent standing alone.
