Stock Model A frames are really spindly. They are not worth messing with. You can buy new aftermarket frames for under $900. If the A was built years ago, was probably stick welded. unless someone was good at it. typically will be bad welds. Ago
I was watching a squirrel cross a busy 4 laner a while back. He was 3/4 of the way across and changed his mind. I'd say that left a mark... I see this ending pretty much the same way...Street pizza on the HAMB highway.
I'm trying to trade off my '56 Ford right now and it is worth A LOT less than you're '56 Chevy. My end dream would be a '30/'31 coupe and even, my car, being less in value I would never trade for that coupe. Looks like a HUGE project which you said you are not cut out for at this time. I have seen some running/driving stock Model A's go for really cheap. They are still out there just be patient. I am sure you could sell that Chevy for a pretty penny and get something a lot nicer or trade it for something nicer. I know the feeling of wanting a hot rod though I am in the same boat. Just don't jump on the first thing you see. Patience is a virtue
Judging from only the photos provided and the statement that both cars are drivable, here's my thoughts... Your wagon: $22,500 (if it has an interior) Model A: $6000 If you're interested in those kinds of trades I've got a bridge.... Sell the wagon and you'll have plenty of money to build a budget A hot rod the RIGHT way. (without a MII of V6) Sent using the NEW Droid HAMB app from atop my toilet.
I have recently learned that I own a 32 sedan and a 32 coupe. Sorry to mislead you folks, no wonder I keep getting the Ol " that ain't your car that must be your momas car" jokes yelled my way... Who would have thought, they are still out there...
That A is a ****box I wouldn't touch with a pole. I would PROUDLY drive your wagon. Hope you find something better.
yeah i agree with you lookin for something that you can drive. it sure it hard to work on a empty shell. for me anyway. epecialy if its a new type of project for you it could get overwelming and especially if you cant drive it or have fun in it. i think your going in the right direction to get a running kinda beat down car is this the right one? i don't know if you want a v6 and mII front suspension and your happy with the condition then sure. good luck with your search for a hot rod
Won't be getting this one. Guy traded it for a 34 Plymouth. Gotta keep looking I guess. Maybe I will put it in the cl***ifieds here, for trade or sale....
I know you were hot for a coupe, but damn man you just dodged a bullet to the face! I'm betting the right deal will come along.
You guys are right. Just wanted to take a look at this one since it was so close. Really want a coupe or tudor.....Would also not mind finding a nice 60-64 Caddy or cool 60's Kustom. My tastes are all over the place. Just bored with the 56 Wagon. It is a great car but I see to many tri-5's. Horrible problem to have I know....Will post up other stuff I come across or if anyone wants to do some trading, HIT ME UP !!!
You will see a ton of model A's as well, and even more 32's on the road then your wagon. They are repoping everything now, and most of the faux fords are perfect in every way compared to Henry steel. You have a super cool and unique car in your wagon. People love wagons, so think of trading it or selling it outright. I would steer clear of trying to get yourself something that is a major project that needs serious fabrication work. If you are going to rely on friends to help make the build come along, you are subject to the time they can share away from their own daily tasks and projects. Not saying they would not be there, but they wont be there all the times you will need them. Do not rush into something just because you were bit by a bug. Take time, and make the right choice. You can end up with a killer ride. There have been plenty of A's sold on here as of recent that were smoking deals. Runners that had great looks. Be prepared to spend up and over 20k for something built well, or be willing to invest that into a ride done right. You have admitted that you are not too keen on the skills you need to make things come together on your own, and to be honest you are not too familiar with the early fords. Mistaking a Deuce for an A is rather costly slip if you purchase one thinking its the other. A top notch A' done to perfection would be busting out at 40-45k, and I am talking amazing build. While a Henry Steel 32' can fly past that in a heart beat and still keep running. Man make it a 3w and you are talking bank buster. I am glad you did not grab this car, your wagon is dope. Think of painting it and sharpening it up and you will be more then happy with it. You can turn that thing into a smoking hot Kustom. Be easy with making the change. Hot rods are very different then what you are rocking now. They are loud, stink like gas and exhaust. Most women hate riding in them. They rattle and make noise, they scare some folks. Wait... all those things rock! Go a head and find yourself one, just make sure it is worth letting go of your wagon for.
