Projects Thrashing and what did you git done this weekend

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by porknbeaner, Jul 21, 2008.

  1. So I got this old ditch fill Belair from Kenny that I've been thrashing on; sort of.

I finaly finished installing the A Arm bushings that I got from DMARV and the straight lower A Arm that Rashy sent Friday, and Saturday I managed to get the gauge panel back in after cleaning up the under dash wireing.

Sunday I discovered that it was too damned hot to work in the driveway. Guess thrashing just isn't the same as it was 35 years ago. I'm beginning to think I'm getting a little long in the tooth, but hell I've earned the right.
I'm still going to try and make it to MOKAN in the hooptie. But in the event that I'm just too damned slow does anyone need a tunner?

I'll be there new old beater or not.

So what did you get done this weekend?

Took the bellygunner T bucket to it's new owner and picked up my new project a 49 chevy pickup. I'm pretty excited, I've wanted a pickup for a while now.
Denise came over sunday and picked up an old trailer I had to use to haul her go cart to Bonnieville. So at least I can say SOMETHING I've owned will make it out to Bville.
I also caught a ground hog and a possum with my new critter trap!

Not as much as I intended, Trying to complete the build on the new sbc.
Never knew how hard it is to find a short water pump, The first place I went some kid at the counter ask me If I needed a new one, then he ask me, What is It? I just looked at him for a minute, thinking to myself, WTF!! and you work in an auto parts store. I promptly took my pump and walked out. I went to several places and finally ended up at NAPA. Ok, it's 10 minutes to 6 pm, yep, closing time, The guy just wanted to go home but gave me a list of posible punps that may or may not work.

Went home, cracked open a cold brew and said f#$k it.

Got my ass kicked by a shoebox ford! Putting a 265 in my 50 been thrashing to get it ready to go to Salina, plans were to fire it up for the first time Saturday, new motor and all ,well, i prime the oil pump, getting ready to set the valves, hit the starter button , solenoid clicks , locked up bigger than Dallas! Brand new motor never been run turned free on the stand. So i pull the starter ,its not bound up ,but heres where the fun starts, this installation uses the Power glide bell housing and the standard flywheel the front of the flywheel is bound up against the inside of the power glide bell housing. So out comes the tranny, pull it all down , motor is free and notice the power glide flywheel has about a .080 spacer on the front of it appears to be spot welded on so need to get it off and put it on the standard flywheel and go back together with it all , she ain't going to salina , probably take the roadster.

Finished welding up the chop on my little truck, had momma help me get my under dash master cyl setup and welded, cut out the hole for my gas pedal, scaped the old crusty insulation off the inner roof. Taking a whole week off work, hopefully everything i have on order will show up on time and i might get this bitch road ready by mokan!!

Still working on the Trans tunnel, I started closing in the back behind the seats. I had to make a small box up and over my trailing arm, but it is covered by the seat so nobody will see it, except you guys :D

put the shitbox mark III on the trailer to take to salvage.

bought a new starter, distributer, alternator and all the other crap that goes with them for my T. I hate chasing electrical problems so i thought the would be easier to chase new.

bought a 68 triumph bonniville, because i hate electrical problems this is most likely a mistake. but what the hell you only get one go around if you not buddhist.

Didn't get as much as I hoped, but considering it's hot and humid here I did OK. Got radiator hoses on the 51 Fleetline. Also finished up the power strg. hoses. Hoped to install the strg. column today, but my buddy is busy and I have to prep. for my cigar buddies coming over tonight for steaks and cigars. And have a trip to the bank for a quickie loan for my daughter's college expenses at Cairo. Yes, that's Egypt. It's costing a fortune and cutting into the funds for the 51! Oh well, plan on doing the column first thing tomorrow. Then we're ready for a trip to the exhaust shop and she will be ready to "light up"! Guess that's a lot of BS to say " I didn't get much accomplished this weekend.

In the never ending 55 wagon project that was originally intended to be a pan replacement, upholstery and primer has gone further awry. I jerked the front fenders (because of original paint between panels) and inner fenders, wire brushed the rust off the inside of the fenders, stripped to metal the fenders (again) and wet sanding the inner fenders.

Replaced six sprinklers that the lawn guys killed (told her not to use a lawn service :( ) and replaced a shower head.

Sweat toooo much. Texas in late July in a non-AC shop is not where I really want to be.

i took the mechanical fuel pump off of the plymouth, took it apart and sealed the leak (only temporary until i could get a new pump), put it back on only to find that the leak has now moved, found a new pump in town, took the old pump off again and mounted the new one.
oh, during all of this, while laying under the car working, i managed to get a drop of gas up my nose, perfect shot, i couldn't have done that if i tried.
    damn that shit burns.

For the first time in awhile I actually accomplished something this weekend...I bought a So-Cal brake kit from JimA a good year ago and have been tripping over the 2 giant boxes ever since. My buddy offered to help put em' on this saturday so we tore into it. Ran into a few snags, but with the help and advice of a few here, and a couple trips to Autozone to argue with the kid behind the counter, we got em' done... Don't know why I didn't put them on sooner... Went from this:

Spent most of Saturday dealing with stuff we acquired from our shop find (more details on that here). Found enough bearings to help out a couple HAMBr's on their flathead builds. We made another trip over to the old shop to go through it one more time before it gets knocked down. Ended up finding the rest of the big Lincoln flathead in the attic as well as another 97 (now I've got two for the Model T). Found a whole bunch more tools too (mostly Craftsman). I hate to imagine what else we'll uncover in there once the roof is off and we can actually see in there with decent lighting.

Got the Model T tuned up for the KKOA Leadsled show in Salina. Ended up replacing the 'new' rubber accelerator pump in the front carb with one of the NOS leather ones I found in that old shop. Seems to have fixed a lot of my current issues. Coincidentally its the exact same issue that kept me from the KKOA drags last year (rear carb then, and the rubber plunger had actually fallen off the shaft after only a few hundered miles of use).

Sunday I spent all of the morning, and part of the afternoon helping Nosurf move an old truck.

Replaced the worn out transmission in my Satellite on the lift with a rebuilt one all by myself and then did some detailing... I did have a little help boosting it up into place because I didn't have a trans jack...

Picked up my new custom driveshaft Friday morning before work. Sold a 440 to pay for the driveshaft. Nothing like selling something for pennies on the dollar to make you feel good. Oh well, the driveshaft came out really nice. Just waiting on a bolt and strap kit for the rear u-joint so that I can see how it looks on the car.

I built wood side panels for my flatbed 56. It now looks like it should be full of watermelons and parked on the side of the road. I got half of the 1 inch tubing bent to replace the wood under the quarters and rear deck on the roadster. I'm closing in on having both halves of the roaster together and having a floor minus the trans tunnel. Got my rug-rats to "play" with the shop vac and clean up the shop a bit. Started stacking up parts in the 56 to sell at the Fredricksburg swapmeet this coming weekend. Need to make a sign that says buy my shit so i can build a roadster...please! :D
