Recently we helped a friend (Bill) move his five window body onto its ch***is, and while there, I took some pictures of the surroundings that might be of some interest. Enjoy.

    - First up is Bill's '32 roadster, which he "discovered" in his residential neighborhood. The car spent the majority of its existence in Nogales, AZ, which is along the Mexico/Arizona border, but was moved 60 miles north to Tucson to be stored after the original owner p***ed away. Bill happened to be sitting on his front porch when it went down his street on a trailer, and when the family of the original owner decided to part with the car, Bill was able to acquire it. While a few changes were made (early Cyclone heads, magnesium Halibrands, etc..), the car remains true to its "as found" condition.

    - Next up is Bill's full-fendered coupe, which he "discovered" about a year ago near Seattle. Last Spring, Bill sold his Alaskan fishing house to a gentleman from Washington state, who mentioned over dinner that he had a couple of old cars Bill might be interested in. Long story short, one of the cars was this '32 five window, which had been stored since the mid-1950's in an old boat house near the Pugent Sound. Like the roadster, Bill has made a few upgrades (hopped up the 4 banger, dropped the original axle, juice brakes, etc..), but has tried to keep the coupe close to its "as found" condition.

-The final deuce in Bill's garage is his five window project that we helped set the body back on. In its previous life, the coupe was a full-fendered hot rod here in Tucson, and was owned by HAMB member Bill Van ****. Bill (the current owner) has had this coupe for approximately 25 years, and is in the final stages of fabrication before blowing it apart for paint and interior.

-In addition to the original frame and pristine body, the coupe also has quite a few rare parts that Bill has ac***ulated over the years (Kinmont brakes at all 4 wheels, original Ardun heads, early Cyclone quickchange rear, etc..) which showcase his interest in early sprint cars. While a lot of the parts and pieces in the pictures are now worth quite a bit of money, Bill was smart enough to start collecting this stuff years ago when demand and prices were low. At this point the plan is to finish the car in gloss gray and maroon, although Bill's attention to detail in all of the one-off fabricated parts almost makes it a shame to cover the ch***is with a body. Hopefully the pictures will help fill in the details, enjoy!

Bill is one hell of a nice guy. I got to know him at the LA roadster show (last year I think). I can wait to see the 5w in person.

That garage is a true "Hot Rodders Heaven" Everyone dreams of a garage like that.

Tell me, what is the rear cross-member/spring set-up and can he change the QC gears without cutting into the tank?
I'm also curious as to what the gearbox is?
