  5. bct,

Looks great- you and I have very similar taste! I thought long and hard about using a Chrysler shell and now you have me searching for a Dodge wavy axle... and I may have a lead :)

Nice Princess Auto C Clamp. I used to work there. Employee discount was 20%. It made for some cheap tools when you knew which were the good ones.

you bet i sat in it ...........i am going to raise the rear one more inch.....it is one inch higher than the front now , but its not enough to notice....200+ lbs of me only moves it 1/4"...them T springs are stiff.

princess auto is great for what it is. not everyone has the need for high dollar tools. Chinese food is good and so are their cheap clamps.

    thats a flashy little car,.

i am using the whole 28 chev drive train ....i had two sets of rear leaf spring pivots so i used 4 top halves and now i have pivots on both sides to mount the split wishbones to. can anyone see any problems with this and the torque tube?........i know a pivot would solve a ton of problems with and open drive/split bone set up but what about closed drive??? .....will it cause a problem???
    here is the pivot .........

I would mount the bones to the torque tube or if you're mounting them to the frame rail make the bones the same lenght as the torque tube. I don't think the spring pivots will be a problem.

I agree with raising the rear a bit. Better visual.

yes the bones are exactly the same length as the T Tube so that works out....i guess the pivots might not actually do anything....if that is the case i'd rather weld tabs right to the rear rather than rely on the smallish bolts holding the pivots together. thanks again guys

The Pivots won't be of any help unless you have a chevis of some kind there. You will have a softer rearend if you mount to the torque tube. That way there won't be any binding like when the bones go to the frame. This allows the body to lean in a corner. It also effects your steering. Less understeer this way. True it is a light car so steering manners aren't as noticable as on heavyer cars.

thanks again ron. i'm going to weld to the tube and forget the pivots.........i will feel more confident and its all about less not more.

thanks again for the compliments and invite anyone else to show progress on their 3 springers ....i'm not trying to make this my build thread but rather keep it going.

    hey BCT

absolutely loving your build. You have inspired me to use 28 chev chassis for my 27 T. How did you find adapting Ford A rear spring to 28 chev backing plates - is the width the same and does the spring mount interfere with the 28 brake bands?

Many dirt track cars of the 1930s used 2Spring Chrysler Tube axles. I'd guess that there may have been a few lakes racers that used them.

That's a late '26 or '27 rear crossmember and spring I believe Kume.

thanks kume. it is a late T rear cross, spring, perches and shackles. they fit great. The backers are exactly the same width as a T........when i mounted the perches i used a larger hole saw to make a small semicircular cut in one of the brake band keepers for the nut to clear. it didn't go deep enough to cause a problem with the tabs that are on the bands. i am a little concerned with bending the backers when the spring moves but they are 3/16" thick so who knows. definately the weakest link so far. after i change the frame a little the next challenge will be to shorten the torque tube.

Could you fish plate that backer with some 1/4" or 3/8"?

maybe on the inside but the trouble is it is riveted on so limited to what i can do ....there is a large square bearing retainer on the inside if it gets to be a problem i will have to gusset the backer to the retainer by welding in some small triangle shapes on either side of the perch bolt.
