It's a hat. Its really cool. Wear it and if anybody asks you about it just tell 'em how you got it. I met a guy that produced Le Mans with steve mcqueen when he saw my von dutch hat(wayyyy back in the day when nobody had em) and he told me cool stories. Maybe they were lies but at least they were interesting LOL :D

You wanna know how it got there? I'll give you my guess. His ol' lady cleaned out the closet and out it went, because she didn't know any better.

As reported on Top Gear, Jackie Stewart's wife threw out his old dirty racing firesuits from back in the day. He was pissed because similar ones were going for 30 grand each.

You bet the same thing can happen with a hat.

slick50ford: dude, those Hagens on your shoebox *GOT TO GO*. They're sick, as in throwup in your mouth sick.

^^ I guess if you had one of Jackie Stewart old firesuits you'd wear it and tell everyone you were an ex formula 1 driver. Its a hat true. But its what it stands for that should be respected. Obviously you don't give a shit.

Ladies and gentleman, my experiment has concluded. Brandon Silva is the lucky finder of my 200MPH club hat. Brandon, kindly send it back to me and I'll refund your $1.00. :D

Probably just dumped by a guy who is now in the 300mph club and thinks the 200mph club is for the amateurs.

he already said WAAAAY up there in the thread he would never wear it, he knows what it means and thats why he grabbed it. I think he was wondering who owned it was all. If I ever found one of those it would go in my car stuff case because i know it's a very unusual and unique item to find, and I know that someone earned it.

why is everyone trashing this guy? he said he wouldn't wear it in one of the early posts,he just was wondering who it belonged to. a rare piece of history there in that hat, every one earned is a piece of history.

It's been many years since I visited the salt. I was just a 14-year-old teenager at the time and it was several weeks before Speed Week, so the place was deserted other than myself and my family who were driving back from a cross-country trip to California to our home outside of Philadelphia.

I saw the sign on I-80 for the speedway and pleaded with my father to take a short detour off our route to see it. The rest of the family seemed disinterested, but dad was nice enough to turn off the highway to see what was there.

So we drove down to the end of the two lane access road and what was there was ... well, not much. There was fencing along the access road that was clearly there to try to keep people off of the salt, and there was a 55 gallon drum that was put there by the state of Utah so visitors and tourists (like us) could discard their trash without littering up the place.

That 55 gallon drum was painted green and had the words "Help Keep Utah Green" painted on it. This struck us all as more than a little ironic because it was the only green thing in sight. And given that you could see for literally miles in any direction right out to the tops of the surrounding mountain ridges, that was saying something.

Now mind you that was 1970, which from what I recall was an especially bad drought year out west, but trees? We didn't see any vegetation at all while standing out there. I'm honestly not sure where the nearest trees would have been, but they sure weren't visible from where we were that day.

Before we left I scooped up a jar full of the salt. Kept that souvenir for many years.

I am sure glad YOU scooped it up, I would really be pissed if driving to my local Home Depot and seeing an ileagle wearing it sidways with the brim bent up.

  13. I'll bet who ever earned it has a wife who was cleaning out a closent.

  14. You find some crazy shit at thrift stores. I saw Hell's Angels colors hanging on a rack in a thrift store in the Bowery, NYC in the late 80's, right next to an entire dragon wall from a Chinese restaurant. Weird.

wow...any active 1%er colors would be gnarly!!!.....I always go through the shirts and jackets hoping I'll score some long lost racing team or ed roth threads. I tried to call the 200mph club today to let them know, but I had trouble with reception over my cell phone. I sent an e-mail instead. It's a cool item to have on the shelf but I feel like I should at least let someone in the club know I have it.

Damn cool find! It's yours now so do whatever you want with it. But whenever you get tired of dusting it, send it to me.

You bought for a dollar what the original owner had to have spent tens of thousands (at least) to earn.
It's cool you appreciate the significance of it, and that someone else didn't snatch it first who didn't give two ___

  28. That's neat! But I wouldn't exactly equate wearing it to wearing some 1%'er's colors picked up in a threift store. That's two whole different ass whippings.

Cool find. I'm a Dj and constantly visit thift shops and garage sales looking for records and all the other junk you never knew you needed. You never know what you'll run into unless you stop to look...
