Firstly, great idea and I hope it works out well for you and your team.

Please don't take offense at any of my comments. Just my first impression. My 2 cents, I agree with ClayMart on the dark background that surrounds your text information on your website. Not enough contrast. Your category links run together and are difficult to decipher one from the next (study the HAMB layout).

Your promotional cover says, "Not another men's magazine", why not? Shouldn't it be, "Not your typical men's magazine" or something to that effect? You should be careful not to alienate a "big" portion of your audience. From the responses here, guys are willing to look at an alternative view of their hobby/life.

    Best of luck.

  2. I don't see anything.

  3. Hey there! Check out the new background for the site... What do you think?

I understand the concept about not calling it "not another men's magazine" however, it fits... I may change it, but the concept it that men assume that it being "not another men's magazine" as it being a different mens magazine. And the women look at it and think it is for them, which, it is. I can see that many of my supporters will be men, however unless the man is working as a team with the women, they would not be featured in the mag. This is for the woman and their vehicles. If I said "Not your typical Men's Mag, then it becomes a mens mag, instead of a womens. I will consider different slogans, but not sure what to use to signify that it is a womens mag that men can enjoy as well?

And The preview wasn't a pictorial, just a text tease. I did not post a pic. :)

    but since you asked...[IMG][/IMG]

I think your missing the point, its not about men, so why worry about what the guys think, this magazine effort is for the girls to be girls.
I'm sure you will do fine without catering to guys, best of luck Doni:)

How about "A car lover's magazine with a feminine twist"?

  8. I like that! We will think on that! We do have to remember that this mag covers the whole spectum of the automotive, including motorcycles, mudders, off road, boats, whatever the "throttle" is. I really appreciate the brainstorming!

  9. Doni-

The revised website is a big improvement! :D

Thanx! Much easier on the ol' peepers.

    "Not just another mens magazine"

From the pics I just saw, I think you'll have more men subscribers/buyers than women. :D

  11. Thanks! I did it for you! lol:D

Who's the Cutie on pgs 10-13 with the 63 Chevy 4 door? She's got great taste in cars. Tell her if it's got a 6 cylinder I'll marry her.:)

All kidding aside, great looking magazine, it should do well.

Doni, I spent years in the magazine business...I love the concept and the look of your package and think it has some serious potential, but let me throw something at you that I really think a mag like yours should focus on.
I've known many females over the years that had a genuine interest in digging in and building their own cars, or helping with their boyfriend/husbands rides. Invariably, they become discouraged when they run into the "physical wall"
I see this with my own wife, who is working on a 68 Roadrunner. She's a small girl...5'5 115..very strong for a female of her size, but when it comes to things like breaking head bolts, moving engines, or even just block, heads and crank...it's just beyond her physical abilities. It takes a lot of muscle and bulk to participate in the dirty side of this hobby with any sort of efficiency and accuracy. It's that "physical wall" that discourages so many women from realizing their potential in the world of mechanical things. I absolutely can't stand that look on my wife's face when she has to call me over to help break bolts, or move an engine...or when a part of her project is put on delay because I'm not around to do the bull work.
I think that stories on the practical applications of leverage, and working through the physical limitations would have huge value to your readers. The simplest thing, like "how to get that block to the machine shop, without calling in da boys" would help empower that element of your readership that more than anything else, wants to say "I did it myself".

  15. WhitePunk, I love that... I run into that as well, and get angry and get to that point of almost crying before I slink over to Steve and ask for help. If you have the knowledge of leverage and such, would you be willing to contribute some tips or a tech story about that? I know that would be an A+ addition to the mag, but I do not have the knowledge to write about that. I am 5'4" and about 130, so I totally understand her situation :)

Let me know! I love it! and I have a couple of pages left in this issue that it can even go in!

Yeah...I think that I might be able to come up with something depending on your deadline. Let me run the idea past Kathy and see what we can come up with.

Buy 4 and I might be able to score those breast implants I've always wanted, woohoo!

  20. WE are going to offer a digital version of the mag as well. Boy, the technology is AMAZING out there! did you know that Barnes and Noble have digital book racks? This is a way I can get distribution! I will be in print as well, and all of my print subscribers will get the digital sub as well. I will have a digital subscription available as well... It will be slightly less expensive, but will have extras that we cannot provide in print, like digital outtakes, flash, and audio. What do you think?

  21. Thanks so much! We really appreciate all the networking we can do! I will link you as well!

  22. Our first issue is out in print! Cycle Source magazine may be reviewing it for their magazine, and we are very proud of it. Please check it out, and let me know what you think! You can check out the preview on the site, or buy the first issue. Thanks!!!
