I’m putting a Zepher dual intake on my banger and the firewall side carb is very close to the firewall and stock throttle linkage. Looking for linkage ideas please with minimal changes to stock, if possible. Hahahaha.

The new Carbs currently have pull throttle shaft on them, my current single carb set up is for a push throttle using the Stromberg LZ throttle shaft. I may need to buy the new throttle shafts but may also use the drive side of the carbs with the super links I have to push.

I know it’s personal but looking for how you got around that closer carb.

    options:
    - Super links on the drivers side as a push
    - Ball snap linkage on pass side
    - Dump the dual carb set up and drive the single carb as it was with the tattersfield intake

for both options I can run the center ball on the shaft connecting the carbs. That will connect to the firewall pedal****embly link as a push throttle

any firewall to carb clearance advice ??

    Thanks in advance!! IMG_5599.jpeg

I suggest you get a model a pedal linkage, and you will need to figure out a bell crank. Your intake doesn't have a place to attach a bell crank tho.

Looks like Model B linkage on your firewall. I found this on Google, it's from an old hamb thread. Just need to figure out how they mounted the bell crank.

This rod is for the chokes.... I silver soldered a ball on it but you have a fancy one that has one you can position.
I found a SS bracket, probably on ebay, and a choke cable from NAPA that fit into the hole with the grommet removed from the choke rod in the car interior. I cut the spring loaded ball socket end off of a stock linkage, drilled the shaft and crimped and soldered the end on the choke cable.
As stated, I don't see a place to mount a bell crank on your intake manifold. I would heliarc a tab on it for your bell crank mounting. [IMG]
The two bell cranks need a rod between them....I went to the local propane supplier and they gave me a bunch of level gauges that had rods on them that had the right diameter rods instead of buying the rod at Ace Hardware.
Welding rod with the flux busted off of it will work too.
Then the linkage from the throttle bell crank attaches to the throttle on the front carb and another linkage to your stock model a throttle ball.
I bought the ball sockets and swivel joints from Speedway....
    Good luck

IMG_5663.jpeg IMG_5664.jpeg IMG_5665.jpeg IMG_5666.jpeg IMG_5667.jpeg Thanks for your reply, I spent about 4 hours in the garage today and this is how I put the square peg in a round hole…. That is using stock 32 b engine linkage with a push throttle carb…

    1) I cut the stock ‘32 spoon pedal off at the horizontal shaft that runs across the firewall

    2) I cut a 4.5” grade 8 bolt down to 3.5”, keeping only the smooth shoulder section. I welded the 3.5” smooth shoulder into the stock linkage, like an extension so that the linkage was further out to the passenger side of the firewall (clearing the intake manifold)

    3) I welded a 2” nub (smooth shoulder from another bolt) onto the shaft, where the linkage previously turned down and to attach the stock return spring.

    4) I used a variety of “free” throttle and choke linkages given to me by a friend, to connect the carbs and throttle. Had to shorten some and cut some new threads but no big deal

    5) I cut two choke linkage nubs/ balls off of donor Stromberg bases and welded them onto the Stromberg throttle linkage bases on my car. This converts my strombergs from a pull linkage to a push linkage. Like the LZ has and you can buy for $40 or so $ each online. I went cheap and made them.

    6) I connected everything and started engine tuning with a great Model A guru friend of mine

    I’m running 70 mains and 45 jets.

The car is noticeably different compared to a single 97 carb. Faster bottom to top and looks great too.

I’ll probably work on the jetting a bit to optimize how it runs but it’s pretty dang close the first try.

  7. Good solution! I've never liked the pivot arm setup.

Agree, I also don’t like the stock set up, there’s too many attachment points which can lead to linkage binding and resistance in the balls swiveling. That why I changed mine at the get go.
