  1. Hi Guys
Has anyone got pics of a simple throtle pedal setup in a roadster? I dont have access to any finished rods right now and need a bit of a point in the right direction...particulaRLY HOW TO ROUTE THE CABLE.

    Thanks

I was with you all the way up to the last sentence. I've got a coupe...but the throttle linkage is all solid rod.

  3. same here, solid rod. s**** gas pedal, rod to the carbs.

  4. Hey, rod ? cable? whatta I know? could be licorice for all I care. You say rod? I say OK lets have a look! :)

Ahhhh....my digital camera is acting up. I'll describe it to yas real good like ya see...S**** gas pedal bolted to inside of firewall. Made cable hole on s**** gas pedal big enough to p*** a 1/4 - 20 bolt through it. Put a 1/4 - 20 bolt though the pivoty end of a 1/4" heim joint (rod end), then p*** bolt through afore mentioned hole in gas pedal arm. Secure bolt with a nylon lock nut...you don't want this **** to loosen up. At his point you'll need to cut a slot in your firewall for the pedal rod to p*** through. It needs to be a slot, because the rod will move up and down while it is pulled backwards or forwards by the pedal. Cut a piece of 1/4 - 20 threaded rod to length and p*** through the slot and thread it into the heim joint on the pedal. Make sure to put a nut on the threaded rod right up to the end of the heim joint and tighten it once the threaded rod is turned all of the way in to keep the **** from loosening up. Put a heim joint on the other end of the threaded rod in a similar fashion and hook to your carb(s). I'm running 6 strombergs, so i have a back bar that connects the two banks of carbs together, and my foot pedal attaches to this via one of the baby piston rod linkage pieces pictured below. You can pick these up at swap meets, or get 'em from www.vintagespeed.com . I really hope that this was enough of a description for you to see what I'm trying to tell ya....good luck and have fun!

Right on, real hot rods don't have cable throttle linkage

I saw a really neat, "Why didn't I think of that?" simple setup in "sandman's" modified that was made up from one "flap" of a fair size house door hinge with the pin removed and replaced with a steel rod with a crank bent into what it needed to be to work the throttle. It was mounted to the bottom of the firewall right where the metal stops and the floor board starts.
    Simple, ingenious.

As always. It is the simple stuff that can draw such a nice look. Great work

  11. Cable?

    You don't need cable.

Most of the time a rod is easier.

    The pics show:
Gennie Shifter stainless s**** pedal with home-made escutcheons and 1/4" stainless throttle rods which use Heim ends.
The one showing the rockers et al shows the throttle rod on the engine side.
It exits through a floating Teflon heat shield.

The home-made all-aluminum, Teflon bushed throttle pedal set up for street or strip.
Two views of the other side showing the throttle rod exiting through another Teflon floating heat shield.
Note in the two similar pics the throttle rod exits at a different place in the heat shield - this due to the Teflon floater plate that moves to accomadate the vertical travel of the throttle rod.

  12. Some more pics.

The first one showing the easy to make and inexpensive throttle linkage on the 31's dual quad setup.

The second shows the simple throttle rod to the 32's single quad.

This last shows an overall view of the 31's ****pit.

The nice part about using a s**** type throttle with the upper arm inside the ****pit is, if you get a stuck throttle a push on the upper part of the throttle pedal will return the throttle to idle.
You can't do that with a cable setup that relies solely on spring pressure for throttle return.
