Hey guys... I had the spring on my '59 cadillac break and lost it. My problem is I dont know where it was originally attached to, usually Cads have a little braket on the manifold but I dont see one on my '59. Anyone have any photos or a manual that show where it attached to originally? Thanks!
It can't be that hard. If you put the spring on,just look for something that looks like the other end hooks to.
If that rod is pushing to open the throttle, you need the spring to go back along the same route and to attach near the end at the carb. The other end needs to go to a spot to the rear of the carb and attach to a fixed point on the manifold or a bracket in the area. Hopefully you =can understand this. It would be easier to show on the car in person/ jerry
Is this a real question Or are you pulling our leg? Serious! If this is not a joke, check to see which way the gas linkage rod moves and then pull the spring in the opposite direction,After that, Crank the motor to see if it runs correct before you drive it,and make sure the spring is strong enough to close the ****erfly ....Hope this helps!
I know this isnt much of a Hamb question, but the Caddy forums are LOW traffic and answers dont usually come. I just dont see a bracket to attach too like the '57 Caddys had, was hoping to see a manual or another '59 setup to see the correct way.
The original spring goes from the shown arm all the way to a thermostat-housing mounted bracket on the front of the motor. Thought I would resolve this in case anyone has the same problem in the future. Got this photo from another Cad owner. Thanks to those who posted...
