Hot Rods Throw out bearing grease

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by james1savage, May 10, 2019.

  1. I’m putting a new clutch in my 50 Chevrolet Styleline however not sure what grease to pack the inner recess of the throw out bearing with. Tried a search but didn’t see any posts on it.

Suggestions? What have you used in the past. I appreciate the ***istance.

Nearly anything, what’s in your shed? Wheel bearing if your packing the bearing itself.

I just use general purpose grease on the inner recess of the T/O bearing, plus a light smear on the front surface, and splines.. Also don't forget to lube the spiggot ..

Why should I throw out my bearing grease?

I prefer white lithium (lubriplate). Fill the groove in the throw out bearing. Go easy on the front bearing retainer. Just enough on the splines and pilot bearing surface to make them look wet.
