Technical Throw out bearing question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by K13, Nov 13, 2014.

  1. I picked up a new throw out bearing for my truck today and have question as it is not quite the same length as the original. It is going behind a 235 with a truck bell housing that was originally out of a '53 GMC truck. I bought it at NAPA and they were able to look it up in their system (year, make, model engine) but it is about 1/8" shorter than the original. Is this difference going to be an issue? Was there different length bearings for this application? Other than the length is looks very similar to the original.

How do you know the original is an original?

    Where is the 1/8" missing?

  3. I don't but I know it came out of the truck and was working. Some of it is the flange around the top is not as thick as the one I have and some is the thickness of the bearing section.

As long as it fits on the fork, and over the collar, it should be fine.

Worst case, you have to make a slight linkage adjustment.

  5. Should be able to take up the 1/8th in clutch adjustment.

  6. Thanks guys! I didn't think it would be an issue but I didn't want to get it all put together and find out it was the wrong throwout.
