I have the Thumper hyd. roller cam w/1.6 roller rockers in my SBC running 3 deuces, with 4 spd. Runs strong. Only issue is low vacuum at idle, but with that much duration, etc. it ain't supposed to. The heads I have are the # 441 with 1.94 intakes. Not a good performance head but they were what I had on the shelf. Better heads would really make the motor come alive.
I have one in my 283.......sounds good and goes OK. I have had better grinds but it's not bad. I liked my Erson hi flow 2 better and will prob run an engle ep25 or similar grind in my next build.
Bringing this back up, since I got the 464 BBC powered Falcon running and driving now. I'm tickled to death with the performance of the Thumpr cam in the 464 Chevy! It's got amazing throttle response, and combined with the Edelbrock oval port aluminum heads and Weiand tunnel ram the performance is amazing. And it sounds as good as it performs. Not all sound and no performance, as some have described them. A little video a friend made the other day. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=595433523820424&l=3930389773982990770
Hmm, so are hot rods with chopped tops that dont go run bonneville posers? Pretty sure that a major part of the hot rod aesthetic is bringing race style to the street. Just like any cam, the thumper cams will work great in an appropriate combo. They also happen to sound bad***. I run the muther thumpr in a 10:1 350 with 2.02 heads, m20 4 speed and a 4.11 gear in my 64 chevelle and am very happy with it. I've installed them for customers who ended up not liking their "real" cam and they couldnt be more pleased. If you can get past the stupid names and marketing, and know how to interpret a cam card it should be pretty obvious that these work well in mild builds.
