Any of ya'll like this movie? It's one of my favorites. I'd sure like to build the 50 ford tanker he started with that had the SBC w/ 3 deuces
Bob Mitchum was in the Army with my dad's best friend. Met him many times. I remember the"ladies" liked him!!!! Nice 49 Merc...........OLDBEET
I'd sure like to build the 50 ford tanker he started with that had the SBC w/ 3 deuces
Check it out I think it had a olds in it.
Oh Yeah! I saw that movie years ago on TV down here in Oz, but have never seen it on video or DVD anywhere. Where can you get it from? I'd love a copy. Mitchum starred, directed, wrote the story AND sung the theme song (from memory)!!! Too cool... Another piece of useless trivia is that Springsteen used the movie as inspiration for his song Thunder Road.
I loved that movie. My father turned me on to it at a very young age.It left its marks on me.I'm going to have to try and find a copy on DVD.
It's the Southern national "offical" movie......... I saw them film parts of it when I was a young boy. The scene where Luke Doolin gets pinned up in Asheville at the tunnel. It was BIG STUFF around the upstate of SC...back then. I highly suggest seeing it IF you are a Hamber and haven't seen it......you will dig it. .
Very good movie. That's how we got into hot rodding down here: building 'shine runnin' cars. Shoot, that's where stock car racing got it's start.
I think I first saw the movie in 1957 , may not be for sure on that, I was in Roswell N.M. at the time and not as old as I am now.
Check it out I think it had a olds in it.
I'm not sure... I tried zooming in on the valve covers, but not enough there to read the mfg. I assumed a SBC since it wasn't a ford mill.
The best I can recal it was flathead powered. On of the lines in the movie was a question by one of the cops while at the police station."does it still have the motor that came in it" and Dooland answered "yeah".The movie had all the hot cars of the day in it. Nice 50 olds 50 merc 57 chevy trip car and 57 chev federal car.My copy bit the dust many years ago. I sure would like to find another. Anybody know where..Oh yes they sell books called "Thunder Road Flathead"
Man I love that movie as much as 2 lane or American Graffitti.Speaking of old car movies does anyone know where I can get a copy of the California Kid with Martin Sheen ?I have looked everywhere I can think of ...
Two-Lane Blacktop is one of my top five favorates, but I admit some of the acting could be a little bit better.
There's a movie called Moonshine Highway. I think its a remake of Thunder Road. The acting isn't great but its still a cool movie and the main guy drives a sweet Lincoln. Another movie worth watching is Road Racers. Cool cars, good music, and foxy Salma Hayek. You can't beat that.
Nope, I don't like it that much either...but of course I bought it but I never watch it. I freaking hate the girl and James Taylor. I just watch it for the cars.
once u have seen thunder road its hard to think of other car movies as original . most of the so called car movies are all about senseless crashing of cars. but then there is white lightning with burt reynolds doing the barge jump.
The car in Thunder Road is a curious bastard. They refer to it as "the 50" in the movie, but it has a '51 dash and several other features of a '51. I think it actually was a '51 with a '50 front clip (a subject about which I know a bit). Jim Mitchum went to the same high school I did. Although I didn't see it (may have been after I graduated), he brought the car to school and drove around, demonstrating the fall-off back bumper and stuff.
That movie straight up rocks. That one movie is what made me want a 50 ford when I was 16. Being young and foolish I thought they were all as fast as the one in the movie in stock form. I finally got one and it couldn't do the tricks like the movie one could. But I still loved it. The movie has great rock and roll music as well as a lot of action. Good luck finding the California Kid. It was a made for tv movie. A friend of mine recorded it off of the lost drive in a few years ago. Its awesome too.
For all you "Thunder Road" fans you may be interested in the "Thunder Road Golden Tour" that took place July 20-22, 2007 in and around Asheville-Weaverville-Forest City and Brevard, North Carolina in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the filming of the movie. For pictures of the event, which included the appearance of Jim Mitchum, son of Robert Mitchum and "Robin Doolin" in the film, go to http://local.aaca.org/gsmr/ , click on pictures and events. The tour included various filming locations and the participation of many personalities who were present during the filming. A great deal of information was developed leading up to the tour and was shared during the event. Anyone wishing to ask questions about the movie and particularly about the 50-51 Ford please feel free to do so. Hexbore
I first seen Thunder Road when I was about 5 or 6 years old. Besides my fathers car crazy shennanagins, it was the seed that was planted in my young gray mush, and grew into the lifelong gear-head I am today.
