there is a guy around here that used to own one of the cars from the movie. don't know if he still does or not.
I can tell a story I can tell it all about the mountain boy who ran illegal alcohol His daddy made the whiskey the son he ran the load and when his engine roared they called the highway Thunder Road Some times into Asheville Sometimes to Memphis Town Every where he went The Revenuers tried to run him down each time they thought they had him his engine would explode and he would leave them standing still down on Thunder Road There was Thunder Thunder down on Thunder Road The law they swore they'd get em but the Devil got em first.
Nick Clooney who used to be a host on AMC when they used to play real classic movies said that he worked as a journalist for a paper in Louisville Kentucky. He moved there in 1958 and Thunder Road had just opened in all the theaters. The theaters were packed for months. When he moved from Louisville in 1965 Thunder road was still being played every weekend at the Drive Inns.
When I lived in NC, a guy I bought a house from told me the stunt car driver in Thunder road used to travel doing roll over car stunts at local fairgrounds. Said his dad remembered the driver telling people that in the substation scene where he rolled the 57 Ford, he broke his leg. I have alway's loved that movie, plus I watched it last night on THIS to.
