Alright, so I am upgrading the tie rod ends on my '31 Chevy truck. I have removed the "balls" from the steering arms, and bought "new style" tie rod ends from Chevs of the 40's (part #374226R & 374227L).

    My question is this:

What size of tapper reamer should I use? The hole left from removing the ball is about 1/2". The biggest part of the new tie rod end is about 1/2". Do I even need a taper?

    Thanks in advance.

I did call them, and all I get is a foreinger on the othe end, that doesn't know ****. Maybe it's because I'm calling from Canada...I can't seem to get a direct line.

Type in bowtie bits and go to there store. They have tierod ends that fit the 1/2 hole. Another hamber told me about them. I'm doing something similar and I'm just going to get mine reamed to 7 degree ford style tie rod ends.

I did mine with the ford tie rod ends and they are the 7 degree tapper.not sure if the chevys have any tapper. If you could measure the large and small diameters on your new tie rods and check the length of the angle its a pretty simple geometry problem to figure out.Pm me if you need help.
