Getting familiar with my `32 ford I got over the summer. Anyone have an idea of what the torque spec would be for the tie rod end castle nuts? From what I know they are Ford tie rod ends on a Speedway forged I-Beam 4" lowered. 001.jpg

  2. Run it up good and tight. You may have to back it off a little to get the cotter pin in.

I was taught to never back off a nut to accept a cotter pin.

I can’t answer too much on torque but I deal with tapers a lot more critical at work and I can say you seat it and tighten to torque and then to next castle nut crown, never loosen to a crown.

Technically the correct way to do that is to line up the cotter pin hole and the castle nut somewhere within the minimum and maximum torque range specified in the manual. That's one reason a torque range is provided in the first place.

If for some reason the cotter pin hole won't line up within the torque range first try a different castle nut or, simply add a thin shim (washers) or two as required under the castle nut. No reason to bust torque spec on critical fasteners.
