Lincoln and Miller both specify that you need a 5-8' copper grounding rod for H/F machines and that everything electrical (or metal I.E welding table, work bench etc) in the shop should be grounded, esp in all metal shops... My Lincoln Square Wave 300 will kill or flicker many of the fluorescent lights in my shop..but nothing to major...

A buddy had to get an older computor that has the serial port (or is it parallel port, the port that is out of date) to connect to his new NC plasma table because of the high freq.
On a more personal note, i find that if i wear and old aluminum pith helmut (like a loggers helmut) and run a wire from it and ground it to the welding bench i keep from getting those impure thoughts while welding.

    Marty,
How do you weld such nice beads while watching TV? My best welds always wind up about an inch from the intended weld seam!

  7. I worked as a close tolerance welder off and on for years, always d****d the lead across my legs with no problems.

That doesn't mean that it couldn't happen. I have so few motor neurons that it is already a physical impossibility for mt to walk and I am just to dumb to know it.

  8. Good to know. I always figured maybe he was messing with us a bit, but, the guy knew so much that I never really questioned him, and figured that maybe he had other motives that he didn't want to tell us.

If for no other reason, I'll not d**** my high freq. leads across my neck in his honor.:)

I have a radio that goes funny when I tig weld on my home welder. I allways have my cell phone in my pocket at work and the shop tig never seems to bother it. We don't have a radio at work so don't know if it would effect that.

I have gone through a number of cell phones but I don't think thats because of welding though as they don't seem to get effected, I think its more that I buy cheap phones.

I have been shocked by the tig at work once, I was touching the work while welding and got shocked I think that was more an earth issue though as I have done it since and not been shocked.
