I have an old Tiger SST ignition box on my 57. I run it with the stock coil/and resistor block and a stock single point distributor. It works great. I did however lift the hood last night and the plug wires were give me a free light show. Wes purchased this system from Honest Charlie’s in say 70. And it’s works flawlessly. So here’s the question. What type of plug wires can I run with this system. Solid spiral/copper core? Or the silicon composite type wire? Thanks
Your Light Show total darkness is referred to as Corona (not the beer)... I've a Chevy distributor which has an MSD distributor cap on top of it. I'm also using qty16, old school, RAJAH connectors. My flathead Merc V-8 has "Corona", but has never missed a beat, in the rain at night. *I use (nothing fancy) 7 mm dia. ignition wire, having steel wire inside.
Mine doesn’t miss either. Was simply wondering about which wire should actually be used. I use solid core /and on my vertex mags on the Willy’s /and prefect /and have another set made up. I have composite silicon wires on it now. I was simply wondering if I could run a set of solid core /(braid or copper ).
Solid core wires create EMI/RFI, which will interfere with electronic devices, possibly including that CD box! I would not use them.
On an episode of "Road Kill", the car kept quitting on the road. They tried replacing many things, including an after market HEI distributor, and it still quit. Dave Freiburger explained later, that it was solid core plug wires that messed with the electronic ignition.
