The only way for it to be better,

is if it WAS yours and YOU had paid for it,

Then the towel got ****ed in and the motor blow up and YOU had to pay for it AGAIN,

    Your A ****.........

    go away..............

If it was mine, and i had paid for it, i would have made sure there wasn't a shirt in the scoop when i started cranking it. And if it was mine and i paid for it, and i fired it and a shirt got ****ed in and blew up my engine, i am sure all of you would laugh and say, what a noob, just because i am not a famous builder of anything.

Please describe EXACTLY (step-by-step) the exact procedure for starting one of these types of engines and reasonings behind each procedure.

    Thank you.

P.S. i like the tire sizes----height to width proportions.

Wrong. I'm laughing because if you had any experience at all you'd know that it doesn't blow up the motor.

Would someone please describe the EXACT (step-by-step) starting procedures for a blown nitro or alcohol engine with, (i'm ***uming), fuel
    injection?

Also, give the reason for each step.

  10. Nice video to wake up too....

    Congrats man....sounds wonderful

The sweat shirt was stuffed in there by me to keep **** out of the injectors. (In the last year alone, the car has been towed all over the place on an open trailer and has lived everywhere, from my front porch to a storage unit to my new shop.) The tuner was prepping the motor while I was getting fuel and didn't see it in there. I ***umed he'd pulled it out. NEVER ***UME anything with a nitro car.

As far as the starting proceedure, it went like this...

*Pulled the valve covers and manually oiled the valvetrain.
    *Checked for loose fittings etc.
*Set the timing with a buzzbox.
*Loaded the alcohol through a chamois over a funnel. (My tuner prefers to warm up the engine for nitro on pure alcohol.)
*Spun the motor over with the starter to oil prime it. Confirm oil pressure.
    *Quick overall check.
*Spun the motor again, got oil pressure, squirted gasoline into the injectors with a squeeze bottle.
    *Hit the mag switch.
*KA-BOOM. Or, KA-BOOM BA BOOM BOOM BOOM!!!
*Pete kept the fuel shutoff backed down to get more heat in the motor faster (coupemerc) which accounted for the "Disney" header flames.
*There was a guy (Mike) running around the car checking for leaks too.

Nitro is next saturday...Hopefully the tuner wears clothes this time!

Conder, it only seems like yesterday that I took a pic sitting in the car at B'Field when it was just a roller!

Glad to see it alive and kicking!

And as for the shirt getting ****ed into the engine, that only happens in Cartoon land.

Most folks that run a Crower or Hillborn type open scoop usually stuff a clean towel or shirt in there to keep **** out and then also use a pretty cover on the outside. And yes, sometimes you get the rag all wet, kinda like Clutchman does with his *******, when you are in a hurry.

    See you at B'Field!

    1) Pulling the valve covers to oil valvetrain. Do you have to do this everytime, or was it because the engine was sitting for a while?

    2) Check for loose fittings. Self-explainitory.

    3) What's a buzzbox?

    4) Self-explainitory, i think? Basically you filled the tank with alco?

    5) Self-explainitory. i'm ***uming you have a mechanical oil press gauge?

    6) Yes, got to be safe.

    7) i'm not sure on this one; How do you squirt gas or any liquid for that matter, into an injector? i thought only a pump can pickup liquids and run them thru injectors?

    8) i'm ***uming a mag is basically a distributor that produces electric current without the need for a battery?

Yeah C-10, manually oiling the valvetrain was necessary because it sat a while.

*A Buzzbox is a simple circuit tester. There's a degree wheel on the crank pulley. After bringing the number one cylinder up to Top Dead Center, you rotate the degree wheel to where you want your timing to be (in my case 40 degrees). Then, you hook the buzzbox lead wire to the points in the mag. The buzz box has a little battery, so when you rotate your mag back and forth, the buzz box will "buzz" when your points start to open. This tells you you're at your timing mark.

*Yep, just poured the fuel in the tank.

*The oil pressure gauge is mounted next to the magneto where I can see it from the seat. It's mechanical.

*As the motor is being turned over, the tuner will crack open the throttle a bit while squirting gasoline directly into the injector ports (which are inside the scoop or "hat"). The motor does the rest.

*A magneto is a !@#$in' beautiful thing. It's basically an electro magnet that when spun, creates it's own spark. The faster it spins, the hotter the spark. Very cool, especially on hot rods and choppers.

*One other thing...If you ever get a chance to do this, DO IT...Even if it takes ten years, ***umption of all previous investor debt, every spare dime you have blah blah blah....FUELERS FOREVER.

Yeah, Pete's awesome. Pat Foster built that tank using 2 Moon tank ends. It's not bullet shaped...Go here for pics of it - http://www.condercustom.com/ATF/rail/g90101.html

Does someone have a detailed picture of the inside of the injector "hat" thing---the thing with 3 red throttle plates that sits ontop of the engine?

i was under the impression that fuel injectors can only squirt fuel that was pumped by a high pressure pump which is, of course, directly connected to a tank which is part of a closed system?

i'm not sure how you can squirt gas into this "hat" thing and have the injectors then squirt this gas into the engine/intake manifold, unless there is a "T" in the system.

    a) Why squirt gas in the first place? Is this due to gas being easier to ignite than nitro/alchohol? And you need to warm the engine up?

C-10. We fire the engine on gasoline because when it's cold alky is hard to light with no heat in the engine. The injection system has no accelerator pump. We run it on the gas bottle by trickling a small amount of gas at the base of the ****erflies to get a little heat in the engine then switch it over to our alky warm-up tank, to further build heat in the engine and to do initial checks for leaks ect... plus nitro is expensive to run it on. We have alky dribbler nozzles in the intake runners plus the nitro (run) nozzles. We leave the fuel pump OFF and gravity feed alky to a distribution bock with the nozzle lines on it. When we are ready, we turn the fuel pump ON and close the warm up alky tank valve. Then it's on nitro from the tank. Do our final adjustments to the fuel system ..set idle ect... then shut it down, pull the plugs , clear the cyls then before running, put the run plugs in and go. The injector scoop or HAT, Is just an open cavity behind the ****erfly's. Part of the nozzles on a blown engine are in the base of the hat, the rest in the ports and some use DOWN nozzles in the heads. (nuther story):D A blown engine can be run off a jug and hose off the ground, the blower will **** fuel from a line and jug to a hat nozzle for warm-up, an Injected only car will not , it requires the tank to be above the engine and gravity feed. There's a ton more but I hope this helps. Lippy [IMG][IMG]

Great explanation to C-10 Lippy,.....let me add 1 more thing about
squirting gas or alky into the hat to start it up,...

When the motor is cranking by whatever type starter, it is sometimes not enough rpm to get the fuel pump to get fuel up to the nozzles fast enough, so if you squirt it first, then crank the motor to start it, that fuel will light thus giving more running rpm so the pump pressurizes the system faster feeding fuel to the motor, and now the motor runs off of the pump.

Thanks to a couple friends of mine, I have all the UN-certified safety gear I need to push start the car. NHRA legal, current fire suit etc. is still several thousand bucks away, but I have some nice, safe gear to push down with! I wasn't able to locate some of the original fire up crew to start the car last saturday, but it'll be soon. Thanks for the great opportunity at Eagle field, but I'm on a GNRS deadline and won't be actually running the car on a track until after I finish this gig.

I have been out of the loop a bit, but it sounds like cars are going together. Next year might be cool!
