I've been coming to this site for some time. Great place, full of great people. I'm an old aircraft mechanic and car lover. I've built a few cars over the years, starting with my first ride, a 57 Chevy Bel Air, 2 door hardtop. Now I want to build a multi theme 32 coupe, (drag, or salt, or dirt track). I'm originally from Reading, Pa. Grew up 5 blocks from the 1/2 mile dirt track. My family went every Friday to watch the flat heads race, most were 30's ford bodies. Bobby Abel was my hero back then. Best darn racing I ever watched. Any way my project is fiberglass body, steel just costs to much. I'll stick a picture in the images. So far so good.
No , not a new age body, found a place called R&R Fiberglass, in Decatur Tn. They hand lay the entire body, no chopper gun used, so all the panels are the same thickness throughout. I then bought all the UPAC inside wood and steel structures and used some super structural adhesive we use on aircraft. I first glue the drip rails using this 2 part glue from Aviall. When cured my son and I picked the body up by the drip rails and it held, so in went the rest, including the swing out windshield and dash. I cut the body up to make it fit perfect. I started using fiberglass back in 1964 in my soap box racer. I hope to roll her out in spring and drive her by the end of summer. Wish me luck!
Thanks, I will, have along way to go. I should be getting my new quick change rear next week. Then I can start to get serious about the darn thing.
Today was a great day, my daughter and son came over, we all worked together, put the body, radiator and supports on. Then for the first time we pushed her out in the sunshine. Huge milestone.
Latest pics, has body mounted, rear in, frame lifted in rear, steering roughed in, and stance established.
