I guess it is time for an Intro, I'm 29 and from Canada, as far south as you can get before the States. 4 miles off the border. I am a chiropractor and working to set up a practice in a town of 2800. I grew up around vehicles and tractors, my father and I have restored them for the last 21 years. I rebuilt my first engine at 8 and haven't stopped since. My earliest vehicles were Oldsmobiles and I have 2 Cutl*** Supremes and a 1972 442 presently. I did up a rat '29 Tudor a few years back but sold it pretty soon after it was completed to finance some more projects. It seems it's easier to buy the projects than to finish them, at least with me. I fell in love with rat rods and greaser culture when I lived in Minneapolis. Gotta love the Vibrochamps and Back to the 50's. I have followed the HAMB for a few years but never signed-up. Presently working on a 1952 IHC L110, am***ed 4 parts trucks and getting close to making one. Also tinkering on a Suzuki Chop in my ba*****t over the winter. I guess that pretty much sums it up.
I found the start of it down at Lee's Liquor Lounge and the rest branched out from there. A good spot to start, at least 5 years ago. A little out of the loop up here in the GWN, but surprising what gets cooked up in all those ice fishing shacks and igloos.
Welcome aboard SAILOR! This is the hip spot for tha RAT ROD Kulture, daddy-o! Tattoo's, greasers with four door Kustoms, red wheels, black primer, whide whites is where it is at. One of the best things here is, as you probably already know, is that you can find out what is "happening" in your scene that is in your area... RAT RODS, swap meets where you can pick up some sweet deals on period clothing, records, 50's furniture... sheesh, I even scored a REAL set of engineer boots at a car swap meet one time... they don't fit me, so I still wear my Newbalance sneakers... but they do look hip sitting next to my 50's dinet set. But the best stuff here is the rockabilly info (so post a lot of questions about it... it'll go over well with the others) a Kat's got to know which elbo gets the green star and which one gets the red one! This is also a good place to find info about the history on Maltese crosses... just ask! And Von Dutch! He is like a rockabilly GOD!! Anyway, glad you are hear to jump in on the fun! Rat Rods are Kewel, Kustom Kemps are Keen and only squares use the letter "C" any more! Sam.
And I bet you thought whe you graduated being a Dr. would bring a little respect, not here!!! My grandpappy was an D.O. FWIW. But, it's always good to have a quack in the house . Maybe you can give some advice on what to do after you sprain your back moving a rear axle around the wrong way? Get some pics of the Binder! I love em. The S-10 / Ranger frame donor thread had a pic of an old binder on a S10 frame that looked pretty good. I have a ScoutII that is leaning on being a donor for something. Oh yeah - welcome aboard!!
Thanks for the warm welcome, not quite sure what's getting the natives restless, but nice to hear some sincerity. The IH still has a ways to go, but definitely one tough old truck. I rescued it from some hillbillies who had mounted a Warn winch on the cab to pull round bales into the box. Cab needless to say is needing to be replaced. Been looking for a Scout up this way as well, but getting harder to track down. The salty winters seem to have taken their toll. Anyways, take it easy, thanks for the welcome.
No sarcasm... since you said you fell in love with the rat rod greaser culture... I thought I'd just make you feel at home! Sam.
Welcome Mr Backpractor. So you say you live in Canada as far south as you can get?Hmmm, well I'm below the 49th parallel. That makes me lower don't it? You'll like it here, sarcasm aside.Again welcome........Shiny
