No significant wear after 18 years? Get the same tires, and tell us what they are!

The current blackwall sizes you are running look great! If you want to make a modern set of radials look better, you could sand off the sidewall markings and lettering. I think there is how-to tech on here or other sites if you want to try it.

  4. Those are a light truck tire, Scarliner ran some about like those on his '27 T way back when. Good tires as I recall.

If you are going to run radials anyway Diamond back is cheaper then coker and some of the fellas from the family are here on the HAMB or were.

  5. Danny, remember if you go with Coker use your Alliance Member code for a discount! I did with my tires on the coupe and saved a nice amount.

After more thought, your car looks perfect. I'd buy the same ones.

I've found with shipping costs, it's cheaper to buy thru Summit at their price and free shipping, providing they carry the same tire. In the Summit catalog it doesn't list a lot of the cool hot rod tires, buy on eBay they do.

Last month I hit the jackpot and bought thru Coker and had them ship them to the Portland swap meet on their truck. I saved on the cost of the tires and had no shipping.

Reconsider the radials and think about Bias Plys....

I'd buy the same tires or similar as you have only 18 years newer!

Yep, light truck, and DiamondBack sells the same tire for a bit more with the markings ground off.

Not sure if they still make this tire. HRP

I'm guessing his supplier discontinued the tires, because Cooper didn't.

Your "beater" is NOT. Love the stance, the steelies, Hell everything about it. Personally, I would repeat with same size you have, and they will be radials, won't they? Since you are like me and drive your toys, radials are by far the best bet for cruising and safety. Don't mean to be preaching, but function over form when safety is concerned is paramount. O.K. No more rants ! Your choice in streetrods/hotrods is as right-on as any one who dabbles in these things. The sedan can't be improved on, IMHO.

In Ohio with Coker, you either pay shipping from Coker to your house or tax if they bring them to an Ohio or Indiana swap meet.. So you pay about the same one way or another...

I will agree with the consensus here Danny. The only way you could improve the Deuce sedan would be to sell it to me :D
Get the same tires or at least the same size and all will be well.
And I agree on the radials thing too for a driver.

  22. Well..if it was mine!!, I'd clean up my bent spoke kelsey's, paint them orange?? and the tire choice would be secondary. Know what I mean? Tim

Michelin probably has the best range of 15" tire sizes of anyone out there in their BFG Radial T/A line. They've shifted most of the tires in these sizes to the BFG line while the Michelin line concentrates more on current passenger car and light truck sizes and the high performance lines.

This page http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire...=1&gclid=CPKjorr7zsUCFdgMgQodx5UAMQ#techspecs will show everything that's currently available along with section width and overall diameter. The prices on there are MSRP so you should be able to beat them somewhat even after tax, mounting, balancing, etc is added.

I think you'll find if you check closer that your current tires don't have a Z speed rating. I say this because there has never been any market for tires in that dimension with a Z speed rating and Michelin. like every other tiremaker, only makes what the market demands. A tire has to be good for sustained speeds of at least 186 mph to carry a Z rating, and nothing that needs a tire with that sort of speed capability has ever used a 235/70 or any similar size within recent memory.

The nearest thing in that size range would've been the XWX tire which was made in the 70's and 80's for Ferrari and similar cars, but even that tire only carried a V rating. I mention this since a search for equivalent size tires to what you have now, but with a Z rating, will be a dead end regardless of manufacturer, and somehow that deuce just wouldn't look real good wearing 315/35ZR19 steam rollers :D

Sure hate that Michelin does not have those sizes any more. Those are what I have on my 40. Been a Michelin guy a long time. Please let us know what you select.

Danny, I like that Deuce as it is, and I agree, 18 yrs. on radials is long enough. If one blows, even if you don't wreck it, just think what it can do to a fender! I don't even know how old those so called BF Goodrich Silvertown bias ply WWWs from Coker are on BGII, as I don't think they are marked like radials with a date code. But I'm sure they are over 10-12 years old. So I'm thinking of making a change also.
I plan to have a talk with our resident tire expert "Frankie 4 Fingers" about it when I get a chance, as he is retired from Michelin as a tire test engineer or something similar in title. But I do plan to go with radials.

  26. Front tire size looks great as-is...I might go with a Radial T/a 285/70 without the white letters to fill out the rear wheelwell a little more. They're 30.5 inches tall so your present rubber rake will be a little more extreme...ride like caddy tires!

Maybe it comes from all my years hanging around/driving oval track cars, but I don't subscribe to the itty bitty front tire syndrome. On any car I own, I prefer neutral to slight oversteer for the old , often off camber curves with decreasing radius found on the back roads I enjoy driving throughout the South. I don't like a car that "pushes" in a curve, and that's the usual result of extreme big/little tire combos.
BGII has 8.20X15/6.40X15 and that's about as much rubber rake as I want.
Danny, I know you say you don't wanta start a squabble about Diamondback tires, but one of these days when you are just farting around on the PC, how about a PM justr to me on that subject, as I would like a little more knowledge about them and their tires before I take the plunge for tires on BGII.
