I'd go back to late 1980, clean out my savings account that existed at the time with around $1,500 in it, and spend it all on Apple stock; by the time I got back to 2023, I think that I'd be able to buy some pretty nice stuff at today's prices.

There's a girl in my fifth grade class in 1977 that I would love to see again...and hopefully prevent her (along with her two brothers and sister) from getting killed in that house fire...

Using what for an ID? Do you still have your 1980 Drivers' License? Your then-self would have you arrested and charged with fraud; "Who is the old geezer who tried to clean out my saving account?". Imagine trying to explain that.

Actually, I DO happen to still have my first driver's license and, even better for this plan, NY driver's licenses didn't have a photo on them until 1984. Between that and my SS card, I think that I could pull it off.

And I think I have a birth certificate that my mom had. Probably dated old enough for the purposes we're all fantasizing about. And some coins and the like that predates any time I'd go back to...

Okay so I'm set. I'm in. Now where's the time machine?

American made 501 5 button Levis, the 26-inch waistline and the hair I had in 1962. As for cars, I'd buy my buddy James Powells 33 coupe before he sold it to another guy.

If I had a time machine that would travel into the past .... I expect I would go back repeatedly and correct all my mistakes, insert myself into histories most fraught situations, and totally mess up the time continuum, and if successfully returned, would not be who I am, and know almost nothing of the altered world I would return to.
And then there is the consideration of time and space, the world I departed from was moving through the galaxy at 447,000 m.p.h. After a day in the past the planet will be 10,728,000 miles away from the place where I left it. And I'd have no use of that pristine 1961 Galaxy HT I brought back.

You're probably right about the 61 Galaxie, but if you had a Chevrolet, you'd catch up pretty fast;).

1962 HB Pier “Where were you in “62?”

“If A Time Machine Was Available In 2023 What Would You Bring Back?...”

    Hello,

upload_2023-12-19_3-29-9.jpeg This version of a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery
upload_2023-12-19_3-30-18.png Not this version of the 40 Ford Sedan Delivery

The question could be answered many different ways. One, the time period of 1966 to 76 was so memorable for us that despite the traditional hot rod choice above, this whole era would be my choice and in talking with my wife recently, it would be hers, too. We had so much fun developing our relationship. Time just flew by as we toured the vast coastline, stayed in some funky places, saw some wonderful things and had a great time being 20 somethings more or less, on the loose.

We were developing the future for us and it holds true 57 years later. Yikes!

But, for old car choices, the Flathead powered sedan delivery was instrumental in my own history. We used what we had and for a great running Flathead, a little underpowered, our adventures were a huge part of growing up and being able to explore different things. I would store those memories in my own hard drive brain, but something was always missing.

    Jnaki

I would like to have the original 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery that we first saw roll up into the Bixby Knolls drive-in parking lot back in 1960.
upload_2023-12-19_3-34-33.png This time, the 348 motor that came originally with the sedan delivery would still be in place. Not, the Flathead motor.
    upload_2023-12-19_3-35-19.png
It was an unusual color, but a quality paint job was instantly recognizable. The color was mentioned and stuck for the whole time I owned the Flathead powered sedan delivery. “Salmon Pink” was the name everyone had on their tongues when asked what color the sedan delivery was painted. It was the major reason the builder/owner decided to sell it within weeks of building one of the coolest hot rods we had seen in our time at Bixby Knolls.

Why was this 40 Ford Sedan Delivery memorable? Well, no one else had one in all of So Cal, except for TV repair folks and perhaps plumbers. But those cars disappear into the background for hot rod teenagers back then.

It was the sound and attitude in the way that first look gave to all of the teenagers in the lot. The sound was evident and the look was a first. There was a Red 1940 Ford sedan with a Buick motor and LaSalle transmission sitting in the back row. It was nice, had the best white local USA tuck and roll upholstery in any car on the street, and it sounded nice. Not as fast as most modified sedans, but a good sounding hot rod, none the less.

So, we knew 40 Fords. But this sedan delivery had more attitude and to back up the attitude, a 348 motor was purring (actually rumbling) as it pulled into the driveway for all to hear and see. It was the latest creation of a hot rod in the Bixby Knolls area.

We had several years of a rumbling 348 motor in our 58 Impala. So, the sound was music to my ears. The overall sedan delivery was instantly recognized as the best of our hot rod racing the 348 motor and the need for a nice beach cruiser/private camper for our long surfing road trips. I had to have it as it sat in the back row with everyone looking it over and over.

It would be a fast hot rod, plus a great surfing form of transportation, a great surf movie sight as it cruised up to the parking areas and would have the power to back up any street adventures as they rolled up to the stop light.

So, yes, the return of the salmon pink 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery with its original 348 motor, not the Flathead motor.

    Note:

upload_2023-12-19_3-43-10.png So, after meeting my wife in college and getting married to live a simple life, we just happened to purchase a long term project car... a 327 powered 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery. It took many months to get everything right and make it reliable and road worthy. But, then the adventures began... YRMV

  23. My dad's 64 Chevelle.

The first car he built start to finish. He finished it just in time to run a handful of races at the end of 1972, raced it 1973 and sold it to build a new car for 1974 which he sold as a full rolling chassis.

It is probably parked sometime in the future. There are probably a lot of people there that might want to come back to this time to get things for the future!

Lots of people here have things they would to go back in time for. Imagine that same deal with most of the people of the world, through all of time. What about the number of people that might want to go and have a look into the future? Imagine if you could see what "collectibles and investments" will be valuable 5 or more years from now?

I suspect the waiting list for using the time machine is pretty long. Might need the time machine to get back the time you were on the waiting list to use it.... Will your allotted use time of the machine come before you die?

Who you have to contact to get on the list to use the time machine might be the most important question to ask. Who is the time keeper for the time machine? How would we contact him (or her)?

I think making the best with what I have to work with in the present time is the best plan.

Debbie Downer says it ain't ever gonna happen, because if it was ever possible, some jack-wagon would have already totally screwed up the space-time continuum. Wait, maybe that's what we're living in now? How would we know?

That damned Rod Taylor ruined it for the rest of us by taking it 800,000 years into the future and staying there.

  28. Can’t bring anything back from the past.
When traveling forward into the past (it’s like bracket racing you have to catch up with it then tap the brakes) you only see the images of the past.
To bring objects back or interact with the past you would need to find a parallel universe that’s currently in the era you would like to visit.
So when I get the bugs worked out I plan to explore parallel universes and enjoy the food mostly.
Might bring back a few parts. Probably tires and accessories to sell to the lowrider crowd.

  29. But if I find this coupe during my travels, it’s got to come back. Some how.
