Well, it's going to cost you a bit, however there are people who collect old money similar to stamp collectors. And coin collectors. Granted, getting enough coinage has weight issues, it's not insurmountable. And do it in stages. Get 70s money, go back and buy Microsoft and Apple stock. Come back to the present and cash some in, for millions of dollars. Now you've got the money to get more from the era that you really want to get to.

Buy whatever it is. With prior planning you'll have located a facility that can be bought, and prepared for long term storage. Buy that. Put the stuff in the storage space and seal it up. And now back to the present where you'll have a "barn find " and you've got it done. And with some further planning, you can get other stuff that will be collectible to people to further fund your efforts.

So the 1st step is to get your time machine...

    And we start over!

You go back, rob whatever you need, go back 6 months earlier to another place, establish your alibi, and st things in motion, assuring that on the date and time of your robbery you are unmistakably visible in your new life. Or just take jewelry with you and pawn it.

Yeah, that would work.....so long as you don't get arrested or killed in commission of the robbery.

Actually, you're on to something there. I hadn't thought of it in a "stages" context, but it's quite do-able. Go back to the 70's, and it's quite likely one can still find vintage currency in circulation to hoard. Go back to the early 60's, and you could most likely find 40's and 50's currency to hoard, then drop in one the early 40's to gather up 20's and 30's bucks. Even if you had to do it decade-by-decade, it's do-able.

That's all well-and-good, but there is the problems of natural disasters. (One would have to really research the location for future problems.) Then there's decades of transients and locals alike, breaking in and stealing from the "abandoned building". (The worst offender would be local governments, and their "eminent domain" mindset, along with "we are the authorities" mindset.)

Still, a pretty good thought process on your part.

    Just sayin'.....Roger

Salt mines! The ones like the government uses to store, well anything they think should be kept for decades. Usually they are not in seismic zones, also easily verified after the fact in our time. Look at the charts seismologists have and find the most stable area. Name it Area 99, or something, and fence it off like the government would do.

And since we're going to be making fortunes to fund this effort, we can arrange for security thru the years. Pay for it with those gilt edge bonds bought on one of the excursions, little cashed in at a time. And because we'll have history to guide our investing, we should be able to amass a sizeable chunk of change.

And yes, I have been spending way too much time contemplating this...

If I had a time machine, could I get back the time wasted on this thread?
I could then use it better, like in the garage...

Well, no! You're still ageing. Unless you can approach the speed of light. But that's another topic...

Sorry, but no. However....you COULD go back and advise yourself to ignore the thread. Whether you'd listen to yourself is another matter.

So, if you can go back and give your past self advise, why are we discussing all the envisaged complications???
Just shoot back and give youself the inside info.....
We can go 'round and 'round with this until the end of time, and then we can come back and do it all over again..

Or, better yet, you could go back a little bit more and make sure that, I don't know what to call it, decal never, NEVER gets made! That might be the best use yet of our community time machine

The best time, uammm, if you could? And what. If youth/age is part of it!?
So far can't,but in away our old cars are as close as we get.for real.
    Being a war baby my self,born 1942,I grow up,in a great time.
I had a good time in Sr High School, some did not.
I still have my hotrod I drove then,so that's my now days time machine.
I go back, for home coming events now an then, drive my old rod.
The new kids seem to like it also.
So if your ever in Miami ,asked for a ride, too the late 50s n early 1960s in my hotrod. With the same driver, just now 81yo +. Limited time offer?

I'd go back to the late 60's and early 70's and retrieve those El Caminos, pickups, cars and motorcycles I never should have sold, and while I was there bring back a pickup full of cute hippy girls and all the rock albums of the era I could buy.

  22. Go back to an earlier time. Get a job and work for a short period. Use earnings to buy stock. Move (or return) to a later time. Sell now-appreciated stock. Buy whatever goodies you want.

Alternatively, you could get a boat load of era-appropriate pennies for slightly more than face value, transport them back with you (assuming the time travel wasn't Terminator-esque), and then invest similarly as previously mentioned. The appreciation in stock value would quickly outpace the "penalty" you paid today over the coins' face value.

I'd go back to the mid-1950s and try to convince my grandfather to not sell the Duesy...
