Hey y'all, Long time lurker and relatively new to hot rodding (within the past 3 years). It's time to get involved with the HAMB community as this place is a wealth of information/knowledge and nostalgia. I'll attempt to keep this brief... wish me luck. I met some friends in NC that pretty much had me dive off the deep end. Another thing that helped with this was finding out my grandfather had purchased a 1928 Special Coupe back in the early 50's and was planning on hot rodding it with a friend of his. I unfortunately never got to know him as he died at the unripe young age of 36 from a m***ive heart attack. Speed on forward to 2023 and I found myself a 1928 Special Coupe only a few hours away. My friends helped me pick it up and it's been a steep learning curve ever since. So far, with help, I've rebuilt the engine and transmission, revamped the electrical system, cleaned up the cooling system, changed out wheels and the color of the top and am currently working on reupholstering the interior. It'll be a mild banger hop up for the time being until I build a V8 ch***is for it sometime on down the road. I also fell in love with the history of hot rodding and dirt track cars and have a rather large library, imo, of early hot rodding books including Don Montgomery, Birth of Hot Rodding, Tex Smith Hot Rod History and Roaring Roadster's books, Muroc: When the Hot Rods Ran, some Pat Ganahl books, Peter Vincent books, Rolling Bones books along with TRJ, Hop Up, Rod & Custom magazines and much more. I'm currently reading @Marty Strode post, a****st 20 other posts, on his track roadsters and the "Too Tall Ganahl" as I have a 26 T roadster that I will be building with a GMC 270 engine and a Lasalle or Packard trans to a 40 rear end and a quick change (if needed) running wide 5's and a Mopar wavy front axle along with a complete 29 Es*** dash. Build thread to come later on.
WOW! You've jumped right in with both feet. Sweet Model A! Love it. Welcome and enjoy Your HAMBtime........Don.
Thanks Don! It's still a work in progress but I'm happy with the progression. I feel like hot rods were the one thing missing in my life. Went to Bonneville in 2024 and TROG this past year. Will probably go to Bonneville again this year.
