moving on to the '36 already have some '40 rims/tires on it and bought/have enough parts to keep me busy until xmas. 1 question i have is, does anyone one know of a GOOD media blasting shop in southern orange county (CA.) that's open saturdays. i went to orange county sandblasting (in orange) before and they were great, but not open on saturdays (i called and no answer). i've tried DES in san juan and didn't like the finished product. i want to get the frame, body and dash cleaned but i have to make the money to pay for this car during the week (unless i hit the lotto ).i noticed alot of smaller places aren't open saturdays around here, i like the open tues-sat thing. thanks for any leads.....................
notice the welded on motor mounts on the front cross member. the hacked up x member and bent side support.
slow going, depends how much work i have (at work) and how much real life i have to deal with. after cleaning up the slag and cutting off any added unwanted brackets, 1 side done (still have to drill holes for body mounts). side support repaired, other rail welded in and needs to be trimmed........then i ran out of cut off wheels..... i need to remember to check stock BEFORE i start to work. hopefully this week i will finish repairing the frame and this weekend i will box it.
still more i have a used disc brakes set up (gasp) for it that uses '76 and under gm mid sized rotors/calipers, i found out that speedway has those rotors with a 5 on 5 bolt pattern so now i can still run the 40 rims like i was planning.
The '36 was almost the forgotten hot rod for a long time. Way cool project. Good lines on 'em Ya might try callin' the sandblast place during regular business hours and make arrangements to drop it off after hours. They'll probably do that for ya.
Yep, give us a day by day. We love build ups!! Who is the **** that cut a moon roof in that thing? Are ya chopping it? Hows the trunk pan and the lower cowl area ? Usually they all need work there. Keep us update please ?

Good start to a cool car...this model is starting to become one of my favorites. There's somone on here with a grey primered fenderless one...anyone know who that is, or have pictures? What are your plans for this car?

[/ QUOTE ] the body just has some minor surface rust on it, looks like the floor has been replaced and the tail is in good shape. i think the biggest rust spot is in the lower p*** door (real small). so far i'm thinking of full fenders, un-chopped, 4" drop axle, parallel leaf, 40 rims (bias looking radials), 327 3x2, th350, 9" rear and hood top with no sides. i like the stock but slightly modified look. all box panels are in and i was finish welding the bottom when i ran out of gas (argon/co2) on saturday night. sent my friend out to refill the bottle and i'm back in business. 9" is going to get shortened this week.
now the frame is straight (enough), the x-members are repaired and i'm almost done grinding the box welds. the 9" is almost done, should have the suspension on it by next week or so. hope to have the body back on to locate motor/trans/steering on xmas vacation, then the body goes to the basting shop, more pix soon.

looks like you have a nice little car to start from there. sounds like you are setting the car up pretty much the way mine is, 35 5 window, only thing to watch is the leaf srpings make them sit a little high in the back, i had my ch***is modified to let it drop another few inches on the leafs.i also run without a hood, much prefer it that way. keep up the good work and keep us up to date with some pics..
"1 question i have is, does anyone one know of a GOOD media blasting shop in southern orange county (CA.) that's open saturdays" Its not in orange county, but in north san diego (Escondido) There is Hot Rods and Custom Stuff. I havent been home for about four years but i remember them being open on sat. It might be too far to drive but hope it helps.

found some more pix from a little earlier box pieces being welded in nuts welded inside frame for body/fenders/running boards front cross member repaired (used a chunk from another cross member). wondering what gauges to use (really quick photoshop) '55 willys (has gas, temp gauges and oil, high beam warning lights). or the standard stewart warner.
getting ready to weld on spring pads. rear in and bones split another shot of split bones front end coming soon.....................
The painfully slow blow by blow................. split frontend center supports welded in. almost ready to locate motor/ trans (vacation starts dec 24 or so). i'll take more pix when the body is on, all the pix look the same at this point.
Glad to see you boxed your frame as Boyd would be proud of you.Looks to be a good start on a cool car is gonna have paint that shines. I hope so. later Shoe
